Wongwichit and Sau Chop; Soyza Wins from Chao; Ho Shoves on Wongwichit

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Phachara Wongwichit opened the action with a raise to 6,500 from the cutoff and Ho Yin Sau moved all-in from the small blind for 32,000 in total. After asking for a count Wongwichit made the call and the cards were turned over.

Ho Yin Sau: {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Phachara Wongwichit: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

Sau was the at-risk player, but being as both he and Wongwichit held the same hand the result was more likely than not to be a chop and that’s exactly what happened when the board ran out {6-Clubs}{3-Spades}{10-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and the pot was divvied up.

There was a bit of blind and ante stealing for an orbit and then Percy Chao opened the action with a raise to 7,000 on Michael Soyza’s big blind, and the two are two of the bigger stacks so it came as no surprise to see the Malaysian make the call and it was heads-up to a flop of {j-Spades}{7-Hearts}{4-Spades}.

Soyza checked the action over to Chao, who checked it back and the {5-Spades} came off on the turn. This brought a bet of 15,000 from Soyza and Chao immediately released his hand.

It was Wongwichit who was the next aggressor, and the Thai player opened to 6,000 from middle position the following hand. Action folded round to Ka Meng Ho who did not take long to move all-in for 52,500 in total.

Wonwichit asked for a count but decided to let this one go leaving Ho free to rake in the pot and pad out his stack a little.

Tight at the Top

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

It’s pretty tight at the top of the chip counts at present with the chip lead changing hands at least once an orbit. It looks like it is Malaysia’s Michael Soyza who currently holds it at present, though Percy Chao is not all that far behind.

We caught the two in action with Soyza the initial aggressor in this particular hand, making it 5,200 to go from middle position, with Chao choosing to defend his big blind.

Chao checked the {k-Spades}{5-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop over to Soyza, who continuation bet 6,000, which Chao called. The {k-Hearts} turn brought checks from both players and after the {10-Spades} river completed the hand Chao opened for 22,000 and Soyza folded immediately. Chao climbed to 97,000 after the hand while Soyza looked to have around 120,000.

Chao pushed Ka Ho Sun off a hand not long afterward to pad his stack out a little more, before passing some chips the way of Wai Kiat Lee a couple of hands later. It was Chao who was the pre-flop raiser this time around, making it 5,500 to go from middle position and Lee made the call from the cutoff to take the action heads-up to a flop of {a-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{6-Hearts}.

Both players slowed it down and the action went check, check and the dealer burned and turned the {7-Diamonds}. After Chao checked again Lee led for 7,500 and after a little time in the tank, Chao made the call.

The {3-Clubs} river is a blank if ever we saw one and Chao checked again, opening the door for Lee to bet big and he duly did so, making it 19,500, which was enough to get Chao to give it up.

Another Double for Lee

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Wai Kiat Lee is holding on to his tournament life with a firm grip, a fact that Nick Wong has recently discovered, to his cost. Wong was the initial aggressor in this particular hand, making it 5,300 to go on the button and Lee moved all-in for 35,200 in total. Wong made a quick call and the hands were turned over.

Wai Kiat Lee: {a-Hearts}{6-Spades}
Nick Wong: {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}

Lee immediately paired his ace on the {a-Clubs}{3-Spades}{5-Spades} flop and the {j-Hearts} turn and {a-Spades} river kept him in the lead, though Nick Wong scared the hell out of him on the river by jokingly declaring he had a flush. The look on Lee's face was priceless and when Wong was done laughing his ass off he shipped Lee the double-up and play resumed. Unfortunately for Wong he could not recover from this setback and departed shortly afterward to bring play down to a single 9-handed table.

Lee Back from the Dead

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Wai Kiat Lee
Wai Kiat Lee

It was looking pretty dicey for Wai Kiat Lee there for a while but the Malaysian player is right back in the hunt after binking another set. That’s the second one in the space of the last two orbits and it could not have come at a better time for Lee, who, despite clinging on to his tournament life after hitting the last set, was still short.

Lee and Joey Wong got all the chips in pre-flop, Lee’s {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} ahead of Wong’s {a-}{5-} until the flop fell {8-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}.

Lee would need some help to survive and while the {k-Clubs} turn was no good the {9-Diamonds} river was just what he needed and Lee climbed to 35,000 while Wong took the hit god naturedly and dropped to 91,000.

Sau Cracks Lee’s Cowboys: Lee Survives

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

We were nearly down to nine players on two separate occasions, but both time the at-risk player caught the exact cards they needed to survive. Both players in question were involved in both hands and here’s how they unfolded:

In the first action folded around to Ho Yin Sau on the button and he moved all-in for 19,900. Wai Kiat Lee made a quick call from the small blind and big blind Wei Tso bowed out and the cards were turned over.

Ho Yin Sau: {a-Spades}{10-Spades}
Wai Kiat Lee: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

Sau was in trouble but the {a-Hearts}{5-Spades}{8-Spades} flop was exactly what the doctor ordered. Lee was left drawing to the deck’s two remaining kings, that was until the {4-Spades} gave Sau the flush and locked in the double-up.

Lee was left with a paltry 4,000, which was all-in the next hand after Sau min-raised from under-the-gun. Joey Wong and Nick Wong both called as well and the action went four-way to a flop of {q-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{7-Hearts}.

Wong, Wong and Sau checked the {4-Spades} turn and while both Wong’s checked the {4-Clubs} river Sau decided to bet 5,000 into the 1,200 side pot. Joey Wong made the call and Nick Wong folded. Sau had {a-Spades}{7-Spades}, which was enough to win the side pot when Wong mucked, but Lee had {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} for a full house and climbed back up to 17,500.

Tso Takes From Wong

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Nick Wong
Nick Wong

We caught the tail end of a hand between Nick Wong and Wei Tso and picked up the action on the turn with the community cards spread {5-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}.

There was close to 16,500 in bets, blinds and antes in the pot already and Tso (big blind) was contemplating calling an 11,000 Wong bet. After some time Tso threw in the call and the {8-Spades} completed the hand and now Tso chose to lead for a tickly 7,200.

Wong did not look happy about it but made a grudging call and Tso showed him {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for a rivered two pair. Wong mucked and dropped to 19,300 while Tso is one of the big stacks now with 85,300.
