Day 2 Completed
Day 2 of the $1,150 Main Event at the Poker Palace Summer Championships saw another 54 entries register, bringing the total number to a staggering 366, generating a mammoth prize pool of over $363,000, with the first-place to take home $100,000.
It was a marathon day of poker lasting almost 14 hours for the 18 players who survived until play stopped at around 2 a.m.
Toby Giles will carry the most chips (2,725,000) through after accelerating in the late stages of the day, while Adnan Al-Maliki (1,803,000) and Mark Staples (1,600,065) both stayed near the top of the chip counts throughout.
A couple of very big plays caught the eye of the crowd today, including one by David Hirst with a straight flush checked behind that left onlookers bewildered, and another other by Didier Guerin where he folded a set of eights. It kept both of their hopes alive and they'll be back for a shot at the six-figure prize that awaits the champion.
Play will restart tomorrow at 5 p.m local time and the tournament will play down to a winner. In addition, the $5,000 Super High Roller will commence at 2 p.m. PokerNews will cover the Main Event blow-by-blow and will bring a recap of the Super High Roller as the big money will be divided tomorrow!
