Day 3 Completed

Xuan Tan and Yan Li Top Day 3 Field with Seven-Figure Stacks

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Xuan Tan
Xuan Tan

They’re halfway there! Day 3 of this six-day PokerStars Championship Macau Main Event has come to a close with Xuan Tan leading the surviving 37-player strong field with 1,380,000 chips. There’s still a long way to go to find the winner of the HK$3,130,00 first-place prize.

Some of the other players to finish with top stacks tonight included Yan Li (1,000,200), Dong Guo (880,000), David Peters (875,000), and Thibaut Blondel (870,000).

Play resumed at noon in the PokerStars LIVE Macau poker room at City of Dreams with 151 players reclaiming their chip stacks and seats. A couple of hours later, the money bubble burst as Xiao Luo opened to 9,000 and Daniel McAulay bumped up the price to 28,000, setting the scene for what followed.

When Luo called, the dealer delivered a flop of {10-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and Luo checked. McAulay bet 25,000 and Luo called again. The turn was the {5-Spades} and Luo checked. McAulay pushed all in and Luo called. McAulay had {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} while Luo held {k-Spades}{q-Spades} and needed to hit a card to survive. However, the river was the {5-Spades} and Luo met his tournament demise in 104th place, securing a prize for all remaining 103 players.

Starting the day with the chip lead was Pakinai Lisawad who was the only one to bag more than 300,000 chips the night before. He will be back for another day as he finished Day 3 with 151,000 chips.

The chip lead was claimed by Albert Paik early in the day when he called off Ryan Yu’s bluff on a {3-Clubs}{8-Spades}{j-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{7-Spades} board. As soon as Paik called, Yu mucked his hand, knowing he was beat. Paik picked up the huge pot without even having to show his hand and took the chip lead. Paik carried those chips to 66th place where he was eliminated for HK$79,300.

One of the most impressive hands of the day was witnessed when Fabrice Soulier bet 89,000 into a pot of about 200,000 with {j-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{3-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} on the table. Soulier had to call the clock on his tanking opponent, Zinan Xu. After about 30 seconds, Xu found the courage to call. Soulier turned over {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Xu slapped down {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for bottom pair and the winning hand.

There were a lot of talented players who were eliminated from play today as the field narrows. Some of the notable players to collect a payout included Michel Abecassis (100th — HK$62,500), Manig Loeser (87th — HK$62,500), and Bryan Huang (57th — HK$79,300).

Play will resume at noon on Friday with the 37 surviving players returning to play down to the final 16 when play will pause again. The PokerNews live reporting team will be back on the tournament floor reporting all of the action, so check back for all of your updates. Until then, have a great night!

Yan Li Crosses a Million

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Yan Li
Yan Li

The second player to cross the million-chip mark is Yan Li. Li started the day among the leaders but slipped down the counts early on. She is back now and taking charge.

Li opened to 25,000 and got a call from the player in the big blind. The two players checked down a board of {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{10-Spades}{4-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and Li claimed the pot with {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}, besting {k-}{q-}.

Peters Goes Straight Through the Park

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

One of the most dangerous players in the field now has one of the most dangerous stacks.

David Peters just doubled up through Ro Woong Park, again. And this time, it was a big one.

We missed the action prior to the river but were able to catch the details. Peters and Park tangled preflop in a three-bet pot, seeing a flop of {2-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{6-Clubs}. The flop action went bet, call, and the {3-Clubs} came on the turn.

Peters fired a bet of 75,000 and Park shot his fingers out in the form of a triangle, signaling an all-in raise. Peters snap-called.

Peters: {4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Park: {8-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

The table was shocked to see Peters' holding, nailing a straight on the turn. Park needed some help on the river but the {5-Clubs} he received was of no assistance.

Peters now sits among the top stacks in the room while Park is slightly less comfortable.

Blondel Tests Tsuji

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Yasuyuki Tsuji
Yasuyuki Tsuji

Thibaut Blondel was in middle position and looked down at cards he wanted to play, so he raised to 22,000. Yasuyuki Tsuji was up for the challenge and made the call from the button. The dealer spread a flop of {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}.

Blondel continued for 22,000 again and Tsuji called again. The turn came {9-Hearts} and Blondel elected to check this round. Tsuji counted out a bet and made it 30,000. Blondel wanted to see how much Tsuji had behind. Once he saw that he had about 240,000 left, Blondel plopped down four stacks of yellows — 400,000 and plenty enough to put Tsuji all in.

Tsuji went in the tank and, after a couple of minutes, another player at the table called clock. The time ticked down. Once he hit the 30-second mark and he was told how much time he had left, he threw his cards in the muck. Blondel turned over {a-Spades}{9-Spades} and gleefully stacked the chips.

Li Wins a Big Pot

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

All of the community cards were out when we got to the table where Yan Li and Aymon Hata were facing each other for a big pot. There was {3-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} on the felt and Li checked. Hata bet 55,000 and Li thought for a bit before carefully counting out a raise to 120,000 and sliding it forward. Hata only paused for a few seconds before folding.
