Caprian Not Married to Queens

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

From the blinds, Dan Caprian bet 3,300 on a {10-Spades}{8-Hearts}{K-Spades}{7-Diamonds} board, and Gudas Zygimantas called in late position. The river brought the {Q-Spades} and Caprian bet 5,500. After thinking for 30 seconds, Zygimantas raised to 15,000.

Caprian shook his head and immediately flung {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} open in the muck. Zygimantas didn't show and casually raked in the pot.

Cooler Sends Goicea to the Rail

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

A player in early position limped and Cosmin Goicea raised to 300. Chris Moneymaker called and Nicolae Toader three-bet to 1,600 from the cutoff. Goicea was the only caller.

The two players checked a {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop and the turn brought the {10-Diamonds}. Goicea checked and Toader bet 2,000. Goicea called.

The river was the {a-Spades}. Goicea checked again and Toader bet 4,500. Goicea raised to 14,000 and Toader three-bet to 32,625, enough to put Goicea all in.

Goicea agonized over his decision, rubbing his hands over his face, shuffling his remaining 10,000 or so chips together. He engaged in a small back-and-forth with some of his tablemates. Without understanding Romanian, it was clear that the word "clock" was being used. Eventually, he called.

Toader turned over {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} and Goicea let out a burst of Romanian before showing {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}.

A Short Main Event for Omer

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Segal Omer already dropped most of his stack in the first level of the day and just lost the remainder of his stack as well. Holding {10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}, Omer went all in on a {8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{J-Hearts} board. He got snap-called by Stefan Tablan, who held the nut flush with {K-Clubs}{5-Clubs}.

Omer's straight was second best and he quickly headed out of the tournament area. For Omer and all the other players who bust today, there will be another chance at 9 p.m. tonight in the Day 1c turbo.

Marian Strachinescu raised from the cutoff and Chris Moneymaker three-bet to 1,600 from the big blind. Strachinescu called.

The flop was {8-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{j-Spades} and both players checked. The turn was the {a-Clubs} and Moneymaker checked. Strachinescu bet 1,800 and Moneymaker called.

The river was the {k-Diamonds} and Moneymaker led for 2,500.

"Queens?" asked Strachinescu, "Or Kings?"

Eventually the Romanian called.

"Kings," said Moneymaker, showing {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}.

"Aaaa-ces," said Strachinescu, turning over {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}.

"That could have been a lot worse!" said Moneymaker.

"We are not friends," said Strachinescu, "But it's too early in the tournament to put all the money in!"

Grafton Cracks Aces

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Sam Grafton opened from the button and Paul Esau three-bet to 1,350 from the big blind. Grafton called.

The flop was {j-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and Esau check-called a bet of 2,025. The turn was the {q-Clubs} and Esau again check-called a bet, this time for 7,600.

The river was the {q-Hearts}. Esau checked.

"Did he check?" asked Grafton, and when the response came from the dealer that Esau had indeed checked, Grafton checked behind.

Esau showed {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} for pocket aces, but Grafton seemingly too great pleasure in showing {9-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a flush.

"I don't play many hands, but when I do I raise nine-four suited," remarked one of Grafton's tablemates.

"I don't check back many rivers, but when I do I have a flush," retorted Grafton.

Kings into Aces, the Classic Way

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

Sometimes, the classic cooler of kings versus aces plays out as you might expect. It was American Mayan Shih who held {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} in late position, and he had three-bet to 1,150. George Turdeanu, with {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}, four-bet to 4,100, Shih five-bet to 9,000, Turdeanu six-bet shoved, and Shih called all in for 25,300.

The board ran out {5-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{3-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} and Shih's aces remained best. The American quickly grabbed his smartphone to capture the moment, while Turdeanu was left with crumbs.
