Aleksey Kim Calls Down

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

After an under-the-gun limp, Valeriy Fokin made it 1,100 to go in middle position. Aleksey Kim called in the cutoff, and they went heads up to {10-Spades}{2-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. Fokin bet 1,500 and Kim called. Fokin bet 2,625 on the {k-Spades} turn and got called once more. He tried a final barrel of 7,000 on the {7-Hearts} river, but Kim called again after some thought.

Fokin patted the table and showed {a-Hearts}{6-Spades}. Kim had {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} for top pair.

Ko's Massive Bet Wins

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

Three players managed to get a total of 10,500 into the middle preflop in a recent hand, and Richi Dong Hee Ko put in a bet of 9,500 from early position after {3-Spades}{4-Spades}{10-Hearts} flopped. A player a couple of seats to his left let his cards go, and the player in the big blind tanked a couple of minutes before following suit.

Brodie Eliminates Xuefeng Huang

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

Stuart Brodie opened to 450 on the button and got action from the small blind before Xuefeng Huang piled it in for his last 4,500. Brodie thought a couple of minutes and called, and the small blind quickly mucked.

Huang: {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}
Brodie: {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}

The {6-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{q-Clubs} flop was safe enough for Huang, but the {j-Spades} turn brought a straight draw for Brodie. The {a-Hearts} river gave him a winning pair, eliminating Huang from Day 1a contention.

Huang's Overbet Pays Off

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

A player in the big blind checked and called 1,800 from Bryan Huang, who was in early position, on a board of {3-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}. On the {8-Spades} river, the big blind checked again. Huang cut out a big bet of 9,050, well over the size of the 6,000 or so in the pot. The big blind sighed and tanked for about two minutes and then dropped in calling chips.

Huang turned over {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs} for a set, and his opponent nodded and knuckled the table before mucking.

One player who recently took a seat in the event is Bryan Huang. Huang is one of the more accomplished players to establish himself in Asia in recent years, running up a ledger that includes nearly $1.2 million in live cashes.

He's also had considerable success here in Korea. In an APPT Main Event here in 2015, Huang made it to heads-up play, where he lost to Jason Mo for the title. Huang got nearly $90,000 for second place. He also recently made the final table of the Asia Championship of Poker Main Event, finishing sixth for a career-best $162,000.

We'll keep an eye on Huang to see if he can continue his success here.

Another Nice Pot to Lu

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Weihsun Lu opened for 450 early and got two calls before Hyunil Hong made it 2,200 to go in the big blind. Lu called and the other two players folded. Lu called a continuation-bet of 2,500 on the {7-Hearts}{8-Spades}{5-Spades} flop. Both players checked the {9-Clubs} turn and {k-Clubs} river, and the dealer instructed them to open their hands.

Hong showed {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts} for ace-high, but Lu had {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and took it down.
