Juanda Doesn't Trust Instinct

Level 11 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
John Juanda
John Juanda

John Juanda was between Eric Afriat and another player in a three-way pot on a board of {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Hearts}.

All three players checked on the flop and Afriat led out for 7,000 on the {10-Spades} turn. Only Juanda called. The {9-Spades} river completed the board and Afriat bet 10,000. Juanda shuffled chips in his hand and thought through a call.

"I don't feel it! I can't help myself though," Juanda said before calling.

Afriat tabled {j-Spades}{j-Hearts} for a pair of jacks and it was good as the Indonesian poker legend mucked.

"Go with your instinct!" Afriat told Juanda. "Don't go for it if you don't feel it."

Betbese Wins a Flip

Level 11 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Nicolás Betbesé
Nicolás Betbesé

Cassio Pisapia De Almeida raised to 5,500 from early position before Nicolas Betbese moved all-in for 46,500 from the cutoff. The action folded around to De Almeida who made the call, leaving Betbese at risk.

Nicolas Betbese: {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Cassio Pisapia De Almeida: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

The flop of {8-Spades}{7-Hearts}{6-Hearts} left De Almeida’s pocket jacks in front, but the {q-Spades} turn gave Betbese top pair. The {5-Clubs} river changed nothing, with Betbese doubling his stack.

Conor Beresford
Conor Beresford

There was a raise to 5,000 and Conor Beresford just called on the button. Mason Pye re-raised to 18,500 from the big blind which got the initial raiser to fold but Beresford called.

The flop came {9-Hearts}{8-Spades}{5-Hearts} and Pye fired out a bet of 12,500. Beresford raised to 31,000 and Pye stuck around to see the {2-Clubs} on the turn. Pye checked this time and Beresford splashed in a bet of 66,000. Pye check-raised all in and Beresford quickly called off his stack of 211,500.

Conor Beresford: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Mason Pye: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

Beresford flopped a set of nines while Pye was up against it with pocket queens. The {5-Clubs} paired the board on the river and Beresford scored a massive double-up to vault into the chip lead on Day 2.

Sean Winter
Sean Winter

Sean Winter made it 37,500 to go out of the big blind with the completed board showing {10-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}. That sent Harpreet Gill into the tank and the Canadian eventually called.

As Winter rolled over his {j-Spades}{7-Spades}, Gill exposed the {a-Clubs}{q-Spades} and immediately claimed "I just knew you had it," moments after he called the bet for nearly half of his remaining stack.
