Phillips Gets Paid

Level 4 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

A player in middle position opened to 1,000 and was called by a player in late position, Jordan Phillips in the cutoff and the big blind player to send action four-way to the flop.

The big blind checked on a flop of {4-Spades}{3-Clubs}{a-Clubs} and the middle position player continued for 1,500. All three of his opponents made the call.

Action checked through the {a-Diamonds} turn to the {j-Diamonds} river at which point the big blind fired off 3,500. The middle and late position players folded while Phillips, after some deliberation, decided to raise to 11,000. That raise sent his opponent deep into the tank but after some time the big blind did make what appeared to be a crying call. Phillips tabled {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for a full house while the big blind briefly flashed {a-}{8-} before tossing his hand into the muck.

Arnold Flips To Double

Level 4 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

Picking up the action partway through preflop proceedings, a player in the small blind had a bet of 4,000 in front of him and was facing an all in from the covering stack of the cutoff. Tim Arnold in middle position also had a bet in front of him with a significant portion of his stack still behind. The small blind folded while Arnold immediately called, putting himself at risk.

Tim Arnold: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Cutoff Player: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Arnold was locked in a classic race for his tournament life and asked the dealer to put low cards on the table. That is not exactly what happened on the {q-Spades}{2-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop but that did not seem to bother Arnold, who now held a dominant lead. The {10-Clubs} turn did give the cutoff player a gutshot to broadway but it did not come in on the {6-Diamonds} river, handing Arnold a full double.

Ashbaugh Scores Knockout

Level 3 : Blinds 200/300, 300 ante

A player opened to 2,000 from under the gun only to see Bill Ashbaugh move all in for around 19,000 from middle position. Action folded back around to the original raiser, who quickly called with the effective stack to put himself at risk.

Under The Gun Player: {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Bill Ashbaugh: {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}

Ashbaugh was well ahead with his jacks and held on the {k-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{6-Hearts} runout to secure the knockout.

Boker Up Big Early

Level 3 : Blinds 200/300, 300 ante
Torsten Boker
Torsten Boker

A player in middle position limped as did the cutoff, button and small blind. Torsten Boker in the big blind was not, however, prepared to let so many players see a cheap flop, opting to raise to 1,800. That was enough to force out the middle position, cutoff and button players but the small blind decided to call.

Action was checked to Boker on a flop of {2-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and he continued for 1,500. The small blind, seemingly unconvinced, called.

The {10-Hearts} turn saw the small blind seize the betting lead in dramatic fashion, moving their entire stack into the middle. Boker snapped it off with the covering stack to put his opponent at risk.

Small Blind Player: {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Torsten Boker: {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

Boker was ahead with his overpair, needing only to fade a five on the river. He did just that after the {a-Spades} completed the board, handing him a large pot while sending his opponent to the rail.

Burlimann Chips Up With Flush

Level 2 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

Peter Burlimann limped from middle position before the player in the cutoff raised to 600. The big blind called as did Burlimann to send action three-way to the flop.

All three players checked through the {7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} flop to the {10-Diamonds} turn at which point the big blind and Burlimann checked for a second time. The cutoff then fired off a bet of 1,100, which was called by both of his opponents.

The same pattern of action took place following the {8-Diamonds} river, with the cutoff this time betting 2,200 and once more receiving two calls. Burlimann turned over {q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for a flush, good enough to best both of his opponents and scoop the pot.

Honaker Wins Some, Loses Some

Level 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante

Grant Honaker opened to 500 from middle position and was called by the big blind.

Both players checked through the {8-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{q-Hearts} flop to the board pairing {8-Diamonds} turn, at which point the big blind checked for a second time. Honaker decided to fire a delayed continuation of 1,200, which was called.

On the {9-Clubs} river Honaker accidently bet 5,000 out of turn. After some deliberation, his opponent decided to check before quickly folding to that same bet.

The next hand saw Honaker open to 300 from early position with the player in the cutoff calling. The button then three-bet to 1,100 and the blind got out of the way to send the action back to Honaker, who called. The cutoff folded to generate heads-up action heading to the flop.

Honaker check-called a bet of 1,500 from his opponent on a flop of {k-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades} before folding to a bet of 2,300 following the {3-Diamonds} turn.
