Lilienthal Pays Off Tepen

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante
Ryan Tepen
Ryan Tepen

Ryan Tepen opened for 700 in middle position and got two callers. He bet 1,200 on a {4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop, and Clint Lilienthal called from the button. Tepen fired again for 2,200 on the {8-Hearts} turn. Lilienthal again called and then found himself facing a barrel of 3,600 on the {10-Hearts} river. Lilienthal said something inaudible then quickly called.

Tepen showed {6-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a backdoor flush, and Lilienthal mucked {a-Spades}{10-Spades}.

Michael Sanders bet 1,200 when checked to on a flop of {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{7-Spades}, and an opponent in the big blind called. That player check-called a further 1,600 on the {a-Hearts} turn, and both players checked the {k-Clubs} river.

The big blind showed {10-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for a flush, and Sanders mucked.

An Early Leader

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

A player in the small blind fired 3,700 on a {j-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} flop, and Carlos Requena in early position raised to 8,000. That got a third player to fold, and the small blind called. He check-called another 10,000 on the {7-Clubs} turn, and then checked the {9-Clubs} river. Requena went all in for about 8,000 effective, and the small blind called.

Requena showed {q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} and it was good, as his opponent mucked {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}.

Players are on break for 15 minutes.

Karn Drops a Pair

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Three players checked to Terry Karn on a flop of {j-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} and he bet 1,200. The big blind called, and the other players folded. The turn brought a {9-Clubs} and Karn bet 2,250. After a long pause, his opponent called. The river was the {2-Clubs} and Karn's opponent came to life, pushing out a stack of chips. Before it could be broken down or counted, Karn immediately mucked his hand, and his opponent showed {5-Hearts}{5-Spades} for quads.

The very next hand, on a board of {q-Hearts}{9-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{4-Hearts}, Karn bet 1,000 on the flop and turn with the same opponent calling out of the small blind. Check-check on the river, and Karn's {q-}{j-} was bested by {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}.

At the neighboring table, RunGood Pro Jamie Kerstetter joined the tournament.

Anderson Gets a Fold from Johnson

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Matt Anderson and Aaron Johnson played what looked to be a reraised pot out of the blinds, with both players checking the {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} flop. Anderson bet 1,500 on the {9-Hearts} turn and Johnson called. The river was a {6-Hearts} and Anderson came out firing big with 4,000. Johnson thought a bit and then folded.

Anderson, a cash regular at the Horseshoe, has experienced impressive tournament success in a low volume. He has victories in both MSPT and WSOP Circuit events totaling more than $120,000.
