Day 2 Completed

No Joke: Tom Leto Leads Day 1b as Another 13 Bag

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Tom Leto

Another Day 1 flight of RunGood Poker Series Council Bluffs led to another hard as 13 players bagged a couple of levels before things were scheduled to end. The 76 who turned out pushed the two-flight total to 144 for the first $1,100 Main Event on the tour.

Tom Leto was the leader with an overwhelming stack of 328,800, far ahead of Day 1a leader Russell Licking's 240,500. Andre "Aces" Allen (229,900) and Thomas Houston (225,400) also finished with piles. RunGood Pro and two-time RunGood champ Ryan Tepen (133,700) also made it through, as did Phil Mader (83,200), Jeff Brin (71,400), and Terry Karn (32,400).

Allen is looking for another RunGood final table after making eighth place at RunGood North Kansas City for $1,595. He won a big race late when he raised to 7,500 at blinds of 600/1,200/200 and called the shove of a player in the big blind who had 35,700. Allen had {10-Clubs}{10-Spades} and won against {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} when the board came {6-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{j-Clubs}.

The last few levels were very good to Tepen, who is looking to add a trophy here to his wins at North Kansas City and RunGood Cup Championship in 2015. He won with {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts} all in preflop against {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}, then took another race with {a-}{q-} against the sixes of former RunGood Council Bluffs champ Henry Gingerich. Then, Tepen flopped trip threes with {5-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and held against an opponent with {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts} on a {q-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop to reach the hard stop for the night.

Players firing at least once and finding themselves busto included Ray Henson, Jeff Banghart, Greg Jennings, Aaron Johnson, Jamie Kerstetter, and Ryan Phan.

The 26 remaining runners gather Sunday at 11 a.m. to play to a winner who will claim $40,320.

End of Day 1b Counts

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Bag 'Em

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Two players went bust, so everyone left is bagging with two minutes left in the level.

At one table, a player was all in preflop for a short stack and called in two spots. Thomas Houston bet 20,000 into a dry side pot on a {k-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{9-Spades} flop and his lone live opponent folded. The short stack had {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and Houston {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. Houston turned his opponent dead with the {9-Diamonds}.

At the other table, Ryan Tepen was in the blinds and got a player with 41,000 in on a {q-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop. Tepen had {5-Hearts}{3-Clubs} for trips and was fading the {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts} of his opponent. The combo draw bricked out, leaving Tepen's disgusted opponent busto.

Houston Eliminates One

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

We didn't see the action, but a player got all in for what looked like around 60,000 on a {5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{8-Hearts} flop from the small blind in a single-raised pot. Thomas Houston put him at risk from the big blind with {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} and saw he was miles ahead of {j-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}. The turn was a {10-Clubs}, ending the small blind's slim chances.

Fink, Meyer Eliminated

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Mark Fink
Mark Fink

Mark Fink opened and got three-bet by cutoff Kipp Smith to 10,500. Fink jammed to put Smith at risk for 33,500, and the Nebraskan quickly called with {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}. Fink had {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} and the {j-Hearts}{6-Spades}{7-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} board was clean for Smith. Fink was left with 3,100 and went bust in short order.

At the other table, Shawn Meyer went bust.

Smith Doubles Through Saenz

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Kipp Smith shoved in 15,900 from the small blind and Dash Saenz, who had opened early, called.

Smith: {k-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Saenz: {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}

The {10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} runout paired Smith for a double.

Players are on break for 15 minutes.

Brin Doubles Through Tepen

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Jeff Brin shoved all in from the big blind for 35,200 after Ryan Tepen bet 12,000 in middle position with the board reading {6-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{j-Hearts} on the turn. Tepen splashed in a call after about 15 seconds, and his {a-Spades}{6-Spades} was in need of help against {q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, good for a flush. The river paired the board but it was the {j-Clubs}, and Tepen sent Brin a double.

Tepen Bounces Gingerich

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

According to Phil Mader, Ryan Tepen opened the button to 3,000 and got three-bet to 8,000 by Henry Gingerich. Tepen shoved all in and Gingerich called off about 50,000.

Gingerich: {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}
Tepen: {a-}{q-}

The flop was clean for Gingerich but a {q-} hit the turn to give Tepen the pot and the knockout.
