Day 1b Completed
Libby Wilson brought the night to a close when she helped burst the bubble and seize the chip lead on Day 1b of the RunGood Poker Series Golden Expedition Southern Indiana $800 Main Event.
Wilson bagged up 442,000 as eight players survived the event’s second starting flight. She began her ascent up the leaderboard when she picked up kings against KJ Helton’s queens in a big pot, and then spiked a straight to bust Alan Percal on the money bubble. It was the second straight day that the luckless Percal just missed making the money.

Wilson has nearly $300,000 in live earnings dating all the way back to 2008, but the highlight of her poker career didn’t come from a hand. She made a deep run in the Mystery Millions event at the WSOP this summer, where she pulled one of the $100,000 bounty envelopes.
Donnie Phan is her closest challenger with 390,000, while RunGood ambassador Craig Welko ended up in third place with 384,000. Welko finished runner-up in this event last year on his way to winning Player of the Year honors.
Mary Holton (276,000), Thomas Coomes (248,000), and Devon Sturges (230,000) also secured their spots for Day 2, while Kurt Jewell (81,000) and Greg McCurry (46,000) hung on with short stacks. Defending champion Jasper May didn’t have any such luck today and was among the first to bust, while Mike Chilton, WSOP bracelet winner Ronnie Day, Matt Vaughan, and RunGood ambassador Taylor Howard were also sent to the rail.
A total of 70 players came to Caesars Southern Indiana today, bringing the total field up to 116 through the first two starting flights. There are still two more flights tomorrow, with Day 1c beginning at 11 a.m. and Day 1d following at 6 p.m. Both are expected to be the biggest yet and push the field past the $200,000 guaranteed prize pool.
All surviving players from the four starting flights combine for Day 2 on August 23 at 1 p.m. Play will resume at the earliest finish time from one of the flights. Day 1b lasted into Level 16 and went longer than yesterday’s opening flight.
PokerNews will be back tomorrow to follow the action from the last two starting flights, so stay tuned for more updates.
Raymond Cushing was eliminated to bring the field down to nine.
On the first hand after they combined into one table, Libby Wilson raised to 20,000 in middle position and Alan Percal moved all in for 60,000 in the big blind. Wilson called to put Percal at risk.
Alan Percal: A♣9♣
Libby Wilson: Q♣J♠
The flop came 9♠8♣6♠, while the 10♠ turn gave Wilson a straight and left Percal drawing dead. The river was the A♦, and Percal was eliminated on the money bubble.
The remaining eight players are bagging up their chips for the night.
Greg McCurry bet 18,000 from the cutoff on a flop of 10♦Q♠7♣ and Devon Sturges moved all in for 97,000 in the big blind. McCurry tanked for a mintue before calling.
Devon Sturges: 10♥6♣
Greg McCurry: K♦J♠
Sturges was ahead with a pair of tens, while McCurry had a straight draw and two overcards. The 10♣ turn improved Sturges to trips, and McCurry missed the 8♠ river as he was left as an extreme short stack after handing over the double up.
At the other table, Alan Percal bet 25,000 from the button on a flop of A♠7♥3♠ and Thomas Coomes moved all in from theh big blind. Percal slammed his chips down in frustration before folding for his last 55,000.
Level: 16
Blinds: 5,000/10,000
Ante: 10,000
Thomas Coomes raised to 21,000 in the small blind and Libby Wilson called in the big blind.
The flop came Q♦7♥K♠ and Coomes continued for 15,000. Wilson called, and the 2♥ fell on the turn.
Coomes slowed down and checked, and he then quickly folded after Wilson bet 30,000.
Travis Mager was eliminated right after his last double up to bring the field down to 10 players.
Raymond Cushing raised to 17,000 in the hijack, Devon Sturges moved all in for 79,000 on the button, and Cushing called.
Devon Sturges: J♠J♣
Raymond Cushing: 6♣6♥
Sturges had Cushing dominated with his jacks, and the board ran out 8♠8♦7♥K♥K♣ to earn him the double up.
At the other table, Donnie Phan had shoved from the small blind and Travis Mager called for 80,000.
Travis Mager: A♣4♥
Donnie Phan: Q♦9♥
The board ran out K♠2♦7♠2♣K♦, and Mager remained in the lead with his ace to win the pot and double up.
Alan Percal raised to 20,000 in the small blind and Thomes Coomes called in the big blind.
The flop came Q♣3♠2♠ and Percal bet 13,000. Coomes then raised to 50,000, and Percal tanked for a few minutes before folding.
"That was either the best or worst fold of my life," Percal said.
Devon Sturges limped in from the small blind before Craig Welko raised to 24,000 in the big blind. Sturges called, and they saw a flop of A♠6♥K♠.
Welko then reached for chips, and Sturges instantly folded before Welko even had a chance to put them in the middle.
