Rutherford Hayes went all-in for 64,000 on the button. Sasha Sabbaghian shoved from the small blind to isolate as the big blind folded, and had Hayes and Sabbaghian go to a showdown with Hayes at risk.
Rutherford Hayes: A♠Q♠
Sasha Sabbaghian: A♣K♠
Sabbaghian had Hayes in the corner as he held the better ace with five cards to go.
The 5♥10♥6♠ flop gave Hayes little to work with as he was still searching for a queen to save his tournament life.
Sabbaghian stayed ahead on the 9♦ turn as Hayes was still searching for a queen.
Hayes would be saved when the Q♥ river gave Hayes a pair of queens, much to the chagrin of Sabbaghian.
Quoc Viet Mai was the first to act and opened the bidding with a raise to 10,000. Michael Loncar came along from the next seat over with a call, and Nicholas Scriabine joined with a call on the button.
Mai checked the 2♦5♥7♥ flop before Loncar put out a bet of 15,000. Scriabine folded, but Mai had other plans as he chose to check-raise all-in for 54,000. Loncar asked for a count before he made the call to put Mai at risk.
Quoc Viet Mai: A♣K♠
Michael Loncar: A♥J♥
Mai had the best hand with the better ace high, but Loncar was flush with outs.
The 10♦ was safe for Mai as he was one card away from a double up, but the river had other plans as the 9♥ river peeled to give Loncar a flush and eliminate Mai from Day 1b.

Blinds: 2,000/4,000
Ante: 4,000
Players are on a 15-minute break. Action will resume at the 2,000/4,000 level. There are a total of 55 players remaining in contention on Day 1b.
Han Yan opened to 6,000 from early position and was called by Jack Baldauff on the button.
The flop came J♦Q♣5♣ before Yan wagered 6,000. Baldauff made the call.
Yan kept betting on the 6♦ turn, this time to the tune of 18,000. Baldauff was still interested and made the call.
The 9♦ river led to a wager of 20,000 from Yan. Baldauff sized up his opponent before he chose to raise to 77,000.
Yan went into the tank for a minute before he opted to fold K♣Q♠ face up to award the pot to Baldauff.
Darren Spicer got the action started with an open to 7,000 from under the gun. Quoc Viet Mai made the call from the cutoff, and Michael Loncar joined with a call on the button. Trey Boone decided to risk his tournament life when he went all-in for 33,500 from the big blind. Spicer shoved in response to isolate, which garnered folds from Mai and Loncar to put Boone at risk.
Trey Boone: J♥J♠
Darren Spicer: 7♦7♠
Boone was well ahead, and the flop only lengthened that lead when it came J♦A♠8♦ to give him a set of jacks.
The 2♠ turn sealed it in favor of Boone as the inconsequential 5♦ hit the river to complete the board.
Ronald Matsuura opened to 6,000 from under the gun before Quoc Viet Mai made the call on the button. Scott Stewart joined from the big blind to create a three-handed pot.
It checked to Mai on the 2♠7♠5♥ flop before he bet 8,000. Stewart folded, but Matsuura made the call.
Matsuura checked on the 3♥ turn. Mai fired 13,000, and that was enough to get the job done as Matsuura folded to award the pot to Mai.
The very next hand, it folded to Stewart in the small blind, who shipped it for 9,500. Matsuura made the call to put Stewart at risk.
Scott Stewart: A♦4♣
Ronald Matsuura: 7♠5♠
Stewart had the edge preflop, but Matsuura would flop a lot of equity when it came 8♠K♠8♥ to give him a flush draw.
The K♦ was safe on the turn for Stewart, and it eliminated Matsuura's outs to a pair, but the flush draw still loomed with one card to come.
Stewart's Day 1b would come to a close on the 4♠ river as Matsuura hit his flush to take the pot.
