Hammons Avoids a Club to Double

Level 10 : 500/1,500, 1,500 ante
Zachary Hammons
Zachary Hammons

With 16,000 in the pot and a flop of {j-Clubs}{6-Spades}{9-Clubs}, the player in the big blind checked as did the players under the gun and in the cutoff. Zachary Hammons then moved all in for 23,500 from the button and the big blind woke up with an all-in check-raise to 43,000.

The other two players folded and the hands were turned up.

Hammons: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}
Big Blind: {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs}

Hammons had the big pocket pair but his opponent was drawing to the nut flush. Fortunately for Hammons, neither the {6-Diamonds} turn nor {10-Diamonds} river was a club and he shipped the double.

Blind-on-Blind Collision

Level 10 : 500/1,500, 1,500 ante
Luiz Guimares
Luiz Guimares

On a flop of {7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{6-Clubs}, Luiz Guimares bet 4,500 only to have his opponent in the big blind rip it for 27,000. Guimares gave it some thought and then spiked in some chips to call.

Guimares: {7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Big Blind: {8-Spades}{10-Hearts}

Both players had straight draws but Guimares also had a pair to give him the edge. Neither the {q-Clubs} turn nor {5-Diamonds} river impacted the hand and Guimares scored the elimination.

Villacci Gets Lucky to Double

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Joe Villacci
Joe Villacci

Joe Villacci got his stack of 27,500 all in preflop and was in a bad spot.

Villacci: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}

Villacci was dominated but he picked up some hope when the {10-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{8-Diamonds} flop gave him a gutshot draw. He managed to hit it too when the {j-Spades} spiked on the turn.

The {5-Hearts} river failed to change anything and Villacci shipped the double.

One for the 2015 WSOP Main Event Runner-Up

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Josh Beckley
Josh Beckley

The player in the hijack opened for 3,000 and action folded to 2015 WSOP Main Event runner-up Josh Beckley, who defended from the big blind.

Both players checked the {5-Spades}{8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} flop and the {k-Hearts} appeared on the turn. Beckley check-called a bet of 3,000 and the {7-Clubs} completed the board on the river.

Both players returned to checking and the hijack tabled the {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. It was no good though as Beckley turned a bigger two pair with his {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}.

The $1,650 Deepest Stack is Coming

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Seminole Hard Rock
Seminole Hard Rock

For the next week and a half, the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood is playing host to the Seminole Hard Rock May Deep Stack Poker Series. In addition to this tournament, the series is comprised of two others including the $1,650 buy-in Deepest Stack NLH (Re-Entry) $300,000 GTD, which will run May 23-27.

Players will start with 50,000 in chips and play 40-minute levels through Level 14. Levels 15-26 will last 60 minutes each with Levels 27+ will switch to 90 minutes. Heads-up play will revert to 40-minute levels.

The plan for the Day 1 flights is to play through Level 14. Late registration and unlimited re-entries will be allowed until the start of Day 2. Like the Deep Stack, this is not a best-stack forward event.

Last year, Chris Bolek topped a 349-entry field to win the Deepest Stack Main Event for $94,544 after a heads-up deal with TK Miles. Other past winners include Geddes Cooper, who topped a 465-entry field to win it in 2017 for $112,771, and Scott Heiligman, who bested 367 entries in 2016 to win it for $121,202.

Rizai Vaults to Top of Counts in Back-to-Back Hands

Level 8 : 400/800, 800 ante
Matt Rizai
Matt Rizai

Day 1b has a clear chip leader as the dinner break approaches. Matt Rizai is already up to 320,000, most of which came in back-to-back hands.

In the first, the preflop action escaped us but we do know that Jeff Niedelman was all in for just over 100K and a short-stacked player with 20,800 was also at risk. Rizai had them both covered.

Niedelman: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Rizai: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Short Stack: {a-Clubs}{6-Clubs}

The {k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} flop was interesting as it gave Rizai a set but Niedelman an up-and-down straight draw. The {5-Spades} turn was of no consequence, while the {q-Hearts} river actually gave the short stack the triple with a Broadway straight.

That said, Rizai eliminated Niedelman in the sizeable side pot.

In the very next hand, Rizai flopped bottom two pair when another player flopped top pair. The chips went in and he boosted his stack by another 100K even before he finished stacking the pot from the previous hand.
