The 2019 Seminole Hard Rock May Deep Stack Poker Series continued on Friday with the second of three starting flights in Event #1: $350 DeepStack NLH. Day 1b attracted 200 runners, which along with Day 1a’s 225 brought the current field size up to 425 entries.

After 14 levels of play, approximately 33 remained with Sean Shah and his stack of 418,000 leading the way. That is just a bit behind Day 1a chip leader Aaron Klausman, who advanced with 480,000.

Shah got a good chunk of his stack midway through the day when he hit a heater, which included winning a big flip against Matt Yorra with Big Slick against pocket queens.

Others to bag big stacks were Jaime Tran (338,000), Paul Balzano (290,000), Zachary Hammons (288,000), and Alfredo Fernandez (287,000). They were joined by players like David Ward (286,000), Josh Wasserman (259,000), Aleksandr Shevelev (213,000), Mike Newman (145,000), and Dejan Petkovic (61,000).

Among those to fire Day 1b but fail to advance were 2015 World Series of Poker Main Event runner-up Josh Beckley, Perry Shiao, Randy Larkin, Nick Yunis, Donny Rubenstein, and Ariel Quintana.

Day 1c, the third and final starting flight, will commence at 11 a.m. EDT on Saturday. The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on hand for the entire 2019 Seminole Hard Rock May Deep Stack Poker Series, so be sure to join us daily for all the action straight from the tournament floor.

Javier Sarache Triples Up

Level 14 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante
Javier Sarache
Javier Sarache

In one of the last hands of the night, there was around 40,000 in the pot when four players saw a flop of {j-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}.

Javier Sarache moved all in from early position for 49,000, another player raised all in over the top for 111,000, and Zachary Hammons called from the cutoff. The fourth player got out of the way with what he would claim was {10-}{9-}.

Hammons: {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Sarache: {a-Spades}{5-Spades}
Opponent: {6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}

Sarache was ahead with a pair of aces, and he improved to trips on the {a-Hearts} turn. He had to dodge some draws, and he did when the {3-Hearts} completed the board on the river.

Sarache tripled on the hand while Hammons collected the side pot.

Newman Flops the Joint and Holds

Level 14 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante
Mike Newman
Mike Newman

In the last hand of Level 13, there was 20,500 in the pot and a flop of {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts} when action exploded between Mike Newman and another player. The former wound up all in for 87,500 and when the hands were turned up it was easy to see why.

Newman: {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Opponent: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}

Newman had flopped the nuts but had to sweat the turn and river as his opponent had top set.

Newman was looking to dodge a paired board and he did it when the {3-Spades} appeared on the turn followed by the {k-Diamonds} on the river.

Guilarte Jr Check-Jams the Turn

Level 13 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante

The player on the button raised to 7,500 and Rafael Guilarte Jr called from the small blind. Elias Nassif came along from the big and it was three-way action to the {6-Hearts}{9-Spades}{9-Clubs} flop, which the trio checked.

After the dealer burned and turned the {8-Hearts}, Guilarte Jr checked and Nassif bet 8,000. The original raiser called and then Guilarte Jr check-raised all in for roughly 80,000. That did the trick as both Nassif and the button folded.

Wasserson Eliminates Guimares

Level 13 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante
Josh Wasserman
Josh Wasserman

Luiz Guimares got his stack of approximately 85,000 all in preflop and was looking to get lucky against Josh Wasserson.

Wasserson: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Guimares: {a-Clubs}{9-Spades}

Guimares's best shot at staying alive was to catch an ace, but that didn't happen as the board ran out an ace-less {5-Hearts}{q-Spades}{k-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{3-Clubs}.
