Fernandez-Hernandez Doubles Through Lopez

Level 16 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Jacobo Fernandez-Hernandez
Jacobo Fernandez-Hernandez

Gustavo Lopez raised to 12,000 from middle position and Daniel Perlman called from the hijack. Jacobo Fernandez-Hernandez came along from the button, both blinds folded, and it was three-way action to the {q-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} flop.

Lopez checked, Perlman bet 23,000, and Fernandez-Hernandez just called. Lopez then woke up with an all-in check-raise to around 150,000 and Perlman got out of the way. Fernandez-Hernandez called off for approximately 85,000 total and the hands were turned up.

Lopez: {q-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Fernandez-Hernandez: {k-Spades}{9-Spades}

Lopez had flopped top two but Fernandez-Hernandez was drawing to both straight and flush draws. The {3-Spades} turn gave Fernandez-Hernandez the flush, but Lopez could still win if he filled up on the river.

The dealer burned one last time and put out the {4-Diamonds}. It was a safe card for Fernandez-Hernandez and he shipped the double.

Last year, this very event attracted 1,045 entrants over three starting flights and created a $307,900 prize pool. Dion Jagroo dominated the final table to capture the title after striking a heads-up deal, good for $66,000 plus a $1,650 Deepest Stack seat.

Jagroo struck a deal with his good friend Daniel Silva, who locked up $43,554.

“This is literally something we both dreamed about,” Jagroo said after winning last year. “Something we always thought about.”

“It’s crazy,” Silva laughed as they celebrated.

Saunders: {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}

Fuentes woke up with the granddaddy of all hands and he shipped the double after the board ran out {10-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}.

Van Sanford Hits River to Stay Alive

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Ryan Van Sanford
Ryan Van Sanford

Ryan Van Sanford moved all in for 26,000 from early position and action folded around to Ben Thomas, who called out of the big blind.

Van Sanford: {k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Thomas: {6-Spades}{7-Diamonds}

Van Sanford got it in good but fell behind when the {q-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{q-Hearts} flop gave Thomas two pair. The {8-Clubs} turn was no help to Van Sanford, but the {j-Hearts} river was as he spiked a bigger two pair to double up.
