David Jackson
David Jackson

David Jackson was in the hijack facing a middle-position open to 600 and he three-bet to 1,700. The next three players folded and then Pat Steele cold-called in the big blind. The original raiser folded, and heads-up action checked through the flop {k-Spades}{j-Clubs}{q-Clubs}.

Steele checked again on the turn {8-Spades} and Jackson threw out a bet of 3,700, resulting in Steele letting his hand go to earn Jackson the pot.

Bobrosky Wins Without Showdown

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante
Josh Bobrosky
Josh Bobrosky

Josh Bobrosky raised to 800 in middle position and received a call from the big blind, who defended to take action heads up to a flop of {a-Spades}{4-Spades}{5-Diamonds}. Both players checked.

The turn came {10-Clubs} and the big blind led out with a bet of 1,500. Bobrosky called and the river came {a-Diamonds}. The big blind checked to Bobrosky, and he made a bet of 3,500.

Upon facing the bet, the big blind mulled over his decision for over half a minute and then folded to result in Bobrosky taking down the pot with his river bet.

Banerjee Earns a Double

Level 3 : 100/300, 0 ante
Dave Banerjee
Dave Banerjee

Dave Banerjee saw action fold to him in the hijack and opened to 700. The cutoff called and the pair of players saw the small blind three-bet to 3,100. Both Banerjee and the cutoff called.

The dealer fanned a flop of {7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} and the small blind checked over to Banerjee, who followed suit. The cutoff bet 5,000 and the small blind called. With action back on Banerjee, he thought for around 40 seconds and then announced a check-raise all in, pushing his stack of around 21,500 forward immediately thereafter. The cutoff quickly folded and then the small blind studied Banerjee for about 20 seconds before finding a call.

Dave Banerjee: {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}
Small Blind: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}

Banerjee had gotten stacks in after flopping a set of fours and needed to hold against his opponent's aces. The turn {k-Clubs} and river {6-Clubs} were both safe and Banerjee earned the double with his three fours.

Hengsakul Rides a Roller Coaster To Double

Level 3 : 100/300, 0 ante
Peter Hengsakul
Peter Hengsakul

Peter Hengsakul opened the action with a raise to 600 under the gun and action folded around to the big blind, who three-bet to 3,300. Hengsakul thought for about five seconds and then committed the rest of his chips, immediately receiving a call.

Peter Hengsakul: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}
Big Blind: {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}

"Ooh!" said a player at the table as the flop came {q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} to give Hengsakul's opponent a set of queens. He began to slide his chair back as the turn came {5-Clubs}, leaving him with just one shot left at a two outer to stay alive. A split second later, and from slightly further away from the table, Hengsakul watched the river {a-Spades} roll onto the felt.

"Ooh!" said the same player once again, responding to the set-over-set fashion in which Hengsakul doubled. His stack was totaled to be 9,600 and after the pot was right, it was sent his way.

Looking Ahead to the Upcoming Season-Ending MSPT Grand Falls

Level 3 : 100/300, 0 ante
MSPT Grand Falls
MSPT Grand Falls

Just one more stop remains in Season 11 of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT). From December 18-20, the tour will close out the year with a $1,100 buy-in, $200,000 guaranteed Main Event at Grand Falls Casino in Larchwood, Iowa, which is actually situated just across the border from Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

A series of $65 and $250 satellites will feed into the Main Event, which will feature two starting flights. Day 1a will take place at 3 p.m. on Friday, December 18 with Day 1b taking place at the same time on Saturday, December 19. The surviving players from both flights will then return for Day 2 at 11 a.m. on Sunday, December 20 to play down to a winner.

The tournament comes on the heels of August’s record-breaking MSPT Main Event at Grand Falls. That $1,100 buy-in tournament was the first mid-major poker tournament in the United States in nearly six months, and the 518 entrants not only surpassed the venue’s previous best field of 238 runners in 2015 but also became the largest major ($1,000+ buy-in) in Iowa history.

In the end, 47-year-old Mark Collins, a systems administrator from the St. Louis area, came out on top to win a $107,706 top prize and his second MSPT title. He previously won the MSPT Season 9 Canterbury Park for $102,076.

PokerNews will be offering live updates at the upcoming MSPT Grand Falls.

Peter Dailey was in middle position and three-bet an under-the-gun open, making it 2,000 to go. Action folded around to the original raiser and he called.

The flop dropped {8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and the original raiser checked. Dailey made a continuation-bet of 2,500 and his opponent called. The turn came {k-Hearts} and Dailey's opponent checked to him once more. He threw out a bet of 5,300.

A Look at Last Weekend's MSPT Venetian $1,100 Main Event

Last weekend, the 2020 Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Venetian $1,100 Main Event saw young up-and-comer Landon Tice capture a $201,529 top prize, his first career score in the live realm of poker and in what was only his third live poker tournament. Tice outlasted a field of 1,123 entries in doing so, a figure that generated a total prize pool of more than $1 million.

Prior to this tournament, the 21-year-old from Boca Raton, Florida had just three online tournament cashes on his resume from this past summer: Tice got his start in poker by playing micro-stakes cash games online and has worked his way up, a journey highlighted by a mentor of sorts in Joey Ingram. Tice can now add an MSPT championship to his list of accomplishments.

"It feels good, you know," said Tice after the tournament was over. "It feels so good!"

Tice won after a hard-fought heads-up battle against Brandon Lombardo that capped off a four-hour-long final table. Lombardo entered the match as a three-to-one underdog and held his ground, ultimately finding a double and taking the chip lead for a short time. However, nearly-even stacks went in when Tice made two pair on the river and he doubled to shorted Lombardo, who called Tice's shove with top pair.
