Gabriel’s Emotional Victory Kicks Off 2025 UDSO Marrakech

Gabriel
Gabriel

The 2025 Unibet DeepStack Open (UDSO) Marrakech is off to a memorable start after Spain’s Gabriel captured the UDSO Cup for 200,000 MAD (~€19,000). The triumph was especially moving as it marked his return to the felt following a heart attack suffered in Las Vegas earlier this summer.

Out of 275 entries that built a €100,000 prize pool, Gabriel overcame a tough final table that included French veteran Guillaume Darcourt, who finished runner-up for 140,000 MAD, while Jason Barton rounded out the podium with 100,000 MAD. The final hand saw Darcourt’s ace-king fall to Gabriel’s ace-seven, sealing the Spaniard’s first post-recovery title.

At the trophy ceremony, Gabriel was overcome with emotion, dedicating his victory to his family and travel companion Manuel. “Thank you, life,” he told ClubPoker, looking skyward as he held the champion’s belt aloft.

Tuesday saw a busy day of action at Casino de Marrakech as three different events stole the show at the 2025 Unibet DeepStack Open (UDSO) Marrakech.

From a record-breaking Silver edition to a dramatic comeback in the Mini Main, and the High Roller building toward its climax, players were treated to plenty of storylines.

Montes Wins Record-Breaking UDSO Silver

The 3,500 MAD (€310) UDSO Silver drew a record 296 entries, generating a prize pool of 871,700 MAD. When the dust settled, it was Moises Montes who secured the trophy.

Holding the chip lead at heads-up, Montes shoved with king-seven and found a caller from "Luffy", who was down to his last 13 big blinds with queen-eight. The board ran in Montes’ favor as he flopped trip sevens and improved to a full house on the turn to lock up the win.

Omari Pulls Off the “Comeback” in Mini Main Event

The 3,000 MAD (€266) Mini UDSO Main saw 150 registrations and for the second straight night, Guillaume Darcourt had to settle for runner-up honors after coming up short in the USDO Cup final against "Gabriel".

This time, Darcourt eliminated eight players at the final table and entered heads-up with an overwhelming 4.2 million to 300,000 chip lead. Yet Morocco’s Achraf Omari staged a miraculous comeback, cheered on by the rail who shouted “The comeback!” as the river card sealed his victory.

Guibert Gets the First Elimination of the Day

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

Julien Guibert has had a good start to day, already doubling his starting stack after eliminating Simon Baruk in the opening few orbits.

Guibert explained that he had the nut-straight, and Baruk bluff-shoved with air.

Shortly after, Danut Tiglis opened to 600 from the cutoff, and Guibert called from the big blind. Guibert led out for 700 on the 1044 flop and was called. The 6 turn checked through to the 2 river where Guibert bet 1,200. Tiglis open-folded KxQx and Guibert continued his red-hot start.

A pot of 14,300 was pushed to Marko Krajacic, with Samuel Joslyn being the player to chip down. The duo tangled in a hand shortly after, with Nicolas Boton joining in.

In a three-bet pot with 7,700 in the middle, Joslyn checked from the small blind, with Boton betting 2,000 on the Q65 flop. Krajacic called before Joslyn raised to 10,000. Boton quickly called before Krajacic exited the hand.

The K turn checked through to the 3 river, where Joslyn checked.

"I have 15,400 behind," he said as Boton eyed up his stack.

Boton put Joslyn all-in and was quickly called.

Boton tabled QQ for a set of queens, which bested Joslyn's QJ.

Three-Bet Pot Goes to Spencer

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

There's a full table of players on #6, and Aymen Bouderbala kicked off the action with a raise from the hijack. Korann Dennetier called from the next seat over before Ricardo Spencer made it 1,300 from the button. Bouderbala and Dennetier called.

The callers checked on the A102 flop, and Spencer continued for 1,000. Again, both of his opponents called.

On the 9 turn, the action checked again to Spencer. He sized up 4,000. This time, only Dennetier called.

The 8 completed the board, and Dennetier snap-folded when he faced a bet of 7,000.
