Tables of Death Form on Day 1 of $250k Triton Invitational

Triton
Triton

There are no soft tables in $250,000 buy-in tournaments, but Day 1 of the Triton Invitational may have produced some of the toughest tables of all. That's because, on Day 1, the rich recreationals and the top poker pros willing to put up the quarter-million buy-in are separated.

Among the pro tables is one featuring poker's all-time money leader, Bryn Kenney, as well as Spanish wunderkind Adrian Mateos, American crusher Nick Petrangelo and Kayhan Mokri, the Norwegian new kid on the high-stakes block.

Adjacent to them is Kenney's closest all-time money list competitor, Stephen Chidwick, as well as PokerStars ambassador Jason Koon and Thailand's Punnat Punsri, one of the hottest performers on the circuit right now.

And speaking of, GPI Player of the Year frontrunner Jesse Lonis is flexing his gorilla muscles at a table that also includes fan-favorite Daniel Negreanu, Canadian end-boss Mike Watson, Latvian assassin Aleksejs Ponakovs and recent Poker Hall of Fame inductee Nick Schulman.

Not enough table of deaths? The final pro table features the likes of Poker Hall of Famer Patrik Antonius, new content creator Seth Davies, the always-goofing-off Nacho Barbero and Ben Tollerene, who is largely considered one of the best poker players without a bracelet and could scrub his name from that list with a victory here in the Bahamas.

PLO Poker: A Beginner's Guide to Pot-Limit Omaha

WSOP Paradise 2025
WSOP Paradise 2025

Two of the first three events at this year's WSOP Paradise festival come in the Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) format.

Although it shares many similarities with Texas Hold'em, it has several twists that make it one of the most exciting variants of poker, and one of the more popular for current players.

In PLO, each player is dealt four hole cards instead of two and must use exactly two of them, along with three community cards, to make a five-card hand. This creates more possibilities and bigger swings than you’d typically see in hold’em.

Another key difference is the betting structure. Unlike no-limit hold’em, PLO is usually played pot-limit, meaning the largest bet a player can make is the size of the current pot. This leads to larger flops, more aggressive draws, and often bigger pots by the river, making the game action-packed and highly strategic.

While it can feel confusing at first, the nuances of PLO quickly become second nature. For a deeper dive into the rules, strategies, and common mistakes in Pot-Limit Omaha, check out our full guide here.

Ivey Falls in $250k Triton Invitational Cooler

Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Poker G.O.A.T. Phil Ivey was eliminated from Event #5: $250,000 Triton Invitational in a cooler against Taylor von Kriegenbergh.

On the feature table during Level 2 with blinds of 500/1,000/1,000, von Kriegenbergh raised to 3,000 from under the gun and Ivey called on the button. Jonathan Jaffe three-bet to 18,000 from the small blind and both opponents called.

The three players saw a 1082 flop dealt and Jaffe checked. Von Kriegenbergh bet 20,000 and Ivey raised to 60,000. Jaffe folded and Von Kriegenbergh made the call.

The turn was the 6 and Von Kriegenbergh checked. Ivey shoved for 176,000 into a pot of around the same amount and Von Kriegenbergh called.

Phil Ivey: 108 All in
Taylor von Kriegenbergh: 22

Ivey had flopped top two pair, but unfortunately for him, Von Kriegenbergh had flopped bottom set. The river J bricked for Ivey, sending him to the rail.
