Araya Leads Choctaw's Final 30

Level 23 : 7,000/14,000, 2,000 ante
Abraham Araya leads with 1.8 million.

After a massive day where it appeared he could do no wrong, Abraham Araya has grabbed the chip lead in the 2011/2012 World Series of Poker Circuit Choctaw Main Event heading into the final 30 Monday.

Araya is no stranger to winning at Choctaw, having claimed the main event title at the $1,500 T.J. Cloutier Choctaw Poker Challenge right here this past October.

However, he`ll have some stiff competition when play resumes at 12 p.m. Monday with players like Mark Burford and Larry Grayson above the one-million chip mark as well and Steven Gurney-Goldman, Will Nguyen, Michael Sanders and Daniel Lowery all within striking distance.

476 players began the second day in Durant, OK with Chris Tiller and three-time WSOPC ring winner La Sengphet at the top of the counts.

However, these two spent the day proving the fact Day 1 leaders in just about any poker tournament often have very little impact on the results.

In fact, both busted before the 99-player money bubble popped.

They did find some good company on the early rail, with well-known pros like Scotty Nguyen, T.J. Cloutier, Tommy Vedes, Berry Johnston, Men "The Master" Nguyen, Chad Brown, and Tom McEvoy all meeting them there.

Six-time WSOP bracelet winner Layne Flack also hit the exit before the payouts started after a terrible beat that saw him get it in with a set only to see his opponent go runner-runner to make quads.

Prizepool information was released by the tournament staff part way through the day and with a final total of 978 players getting in on the action here in Oklahoma, a $1.4 million prizepool was created with plans to pay the final 99.

That number was reached shortly after the dinner break when two players busted during the same orbit and both went home with half of a minimum cash.

Six-figure paydays await the top three here at Choctaw, including a sizable $270,380 first-place prize, so things should be exciting Monday as we play down from 30 to a champion, so we suggest you take the time to follow all the WSOPC action live right here on Pokernews.com.

"If I Just Played like a Dumbass It'd All Be Mine"

The action started when a player in the nine seat opened for 33,000, Brian Green called, another player moved all in and Drew Dumanski moved all in behind him. The original raiser folded and Brian Green announced fold and showed pocket eights as he mucked.

Dumanski: {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds}
Opponent: {A-Diamonds} {J-Hearts}

The board ran {Q-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {Q-Spades} and Dumanski earned the knockout and the pot. Green stood from his seat and lamented, "If I just played like a dumbass it'd all be mine."

Lots of Clock Watching

Level 23 : 7,000/14,000, 2,000 ante

Action has tightened up over the past several minutes. The 37 remaining players seem to be content riding out the rest of the level and come back tomorrow sharp and rested. We keep seeing players watching the clock, willing it to go faster. They're approaching 14 hours of play.

One Pair?

Teddy Gill Gonzo.
Teddy Gill Gonzo.

The appropriately named Abraham Araya seems to be running like God here at WSOPC Choctaw.

He opened a pot with a standard raise just a few minutes ago, only to see Teddy Gill shove his last 250k right back at him.

Araya had to think about it for about 45 seconds before he called with {k-}{q-}. Gill held {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} and looked good to double up before a king on the flop and a queen on the turn proved the chip leading Araya should not be toyed with this evening.

Sewell Takes Big Pot from Lipsey

Bradley Lipsey opened for 26,000 and action folded around to Billy Sewell in the small blind, and he called. The flop came {Q-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} and Sewell check-called 33,000. Both players checked the {7-Hearts} turn and the {6-Clubs} came on the river. Sewell checked, Lipsey bet 48,000 and Sewell check-raised to 125,000.

Lipsey took a long time to make his decision. After a while he slid in calling chips and Sewell tabled {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} for two pair and Lipsey mucked.

Big Stack Tango

Larry Grayson is up to almost one million in chips after pushing Clint Baker off a monster pot moments ago here in Oklahoma.

We picked up the action on the turn with some 340,000 already in the middle and the board reading {k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{2-Spades}{j-Diamonds}. Grayson took the lead, making it 100k to go, but after a few minutes in the tank, Baker raised, adding another 125k to the mix.

Grayson really took his time with this decision, but eventually shoved in for a few hundred thousand more and Baker insta-mucked.
