Fitzpatrick Loses One, Still Over One Million

Level 22 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

After winning what looks like a big pot off Cary Marshall, Jeremiah Fitzpatrick has crossed the million-chip threshold.

He almost dipped back under in a pot against Mark Handy, where Handy fired 125,000 on a board of {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{6-Spades}. Fitzpatrick made a crying call, and Handy turned over {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a flush.

Handy now has 860,000, while Fitzpatrick is still in seven figures with 1.01 million.

Myers Knocks Out Williams

Level 22 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Jeff Williams
Jeff Williams

Preflop back-and-forthing between Jeff Williams on the button and Carter Myers in the small blind resulted in Williams being all in and at risk with {A-Spades}{J-Clubs} versus the {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} of Myers.

The flop came {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}, and Williams began to slide his seat backwards. Then the turn brought the {8-Hearts} and Williams immediately rose from his chair, knowing that as Myers had made a straight, the {5-Diamonds} river would be no matter.

Williams finishes 37th, meaning they are now down to four nine-handed tables.

Bowman Booming

Level 22 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

John Bowman came back from the "dinner" break with around 100,000 chips. He now has 690,000.

Bowman and Jason Gwinn got into a preflop raising war, which resulted with Bowman all in and at risk for 344,0000.

Bowman: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}
Gwinn: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}

Bowman was well ahead with his aces, and held as the board ran out {6-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades}{9-Spades}. Bowman doubled to 690,000 chips, while Gwinn slipped to 160,000.

Emmel Eliminates Armstrong

Level 22 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Ben Armstrong
Ben Armstrong

Following a preflop raise to middle position for 30,000, Ben Armstrong jammed all in from the button for the 130,000 or so he had left, then Matthew Emmel reraised all in from the big blind, forcing out the original raiser.

Armstrong had {8-Spades}{8-Hearts} and Emmel {K-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, and the {7-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{5-Clubs} swiftly swung the advantage Emmel's way. The turn was the {5-Spades} and river the {9-Diamonds}, and Armstrong is out.

Forty players remain.

Jacks Work for Jonathan

Level 22 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Noble: {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}
Weinman: {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

The board came {9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}, and Noble survived with a double-up.

Bowman Times Two

Level 22 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Charles Tidmarsh opened to 20,000 in early position, John Bowman moved all for 156,000 in middle position, and Hugh Henderson called the all in on his left. The rest of the action folded back to Tidmarsh, who folded as well.

Bowman: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Henderson: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

Bowman won the race as the board ran out {j-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{k-Hearts}, doubling to 310,000 chips. Henderson slipped to 255,000.

Gurney Gets Through

Level 22 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Larry Gurney was the chip leader early on Day 2, having been one of the main beneficiaries from the rapid decline of start-of-day leader Rick Hensley. But he returned from the "dinner" break to a short stack, and just now found himself in the unenviable position of being all in for his last 29,000 against three opponents.

The trio all checked down the {2-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{K-Clubs} board, then when everyone tabled their hands it turned out all four of them held an ace! But Gurney had the best one with his {A-Clubs}{7-Hearts}, giving him the flush and preserving his tourney life for time being.
