Ditrapani Gets Paid With His Ace

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Alan Cutler checked an {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{5-Spades} board from the big blind, as did the hijack. Nicola Ditrapani bet 5,400 into a pot of 9,000 from the cutoff, and only Cutler called.

Cutler checked again on the {6-Spades} river, and Ditrapani bet 11,400. Cutler called, and Ditrapani tabled {a-Spades}{8-Spades}.

"Ace is good," Cutler said before mucking.

Esquivel Switches It Up and Has It This Time

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Action was already on the river of a {10-Spades}{6-Hearts}{q-Spades}{j-Spades}{q-Diamonds} board, and Michael Esquivel bet 17,300 from the cutoff into a lone opponent on the button. The button took his time, then called, and Esquivel rolled over {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} for trip queens. His opponent mucked.

"I wasn't bluffing that time," Esquivel said with a smirk, referencing a recent pot, as he brought in the pot.

Massey Jams on Wazwaz

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Ralph Massey raised to 2,200 from middle position, and Steve Wazwaz called in the cutoff.

Massey bet 2,000 on the {7-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} flop, and Wazwaz called.

The {3-Clubs} fell on the turn, and Massey announced a bet of 7,500. Wazwaz thought for thirty seconds, then called.

Massey jammed for his last 18,300 on the {3-Diamonds} river, sending Wazwaz deep into the tank. After a few minutes, he pushed his hand to the dealer, and Massey scooped in the pot.

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Michael Esquivel checked a {k-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{j-Spades} board from early position, and Dennis Siem bet 2,300 from the cutoff. Esquivel woke up with a check-raise to 9,300, and Siem called.

Esquivel bet 18,000 on the {7-Spades} river, and Siem called. Esquivel immediately sent his hand to the muck, and Siem followed suit while raking in the pot.

John Sun Captures 1st Gold Ring a Month After Claiming MSPT Title

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
John Sun

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is in Milwaukee to live report action the $1,700 Main Event, but is just one of a dozen gold ring events at the stop. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

Event #6: $400 Pot-Limit Omaha drew 166 entrants and offered up a $54,780 prize pool to the top 25 players including Ben Rock (13th - $801), Mike Hanson (15th - $801), Brad Sailor (21st - $632), and Goran Filipovic (25th - $564).

Coming out on top was 43-year-old Hao “John” Sun, a regular at Potawatomi Casino. He not only won a $14,190 first-place prize, he also laid claim to his first WSOP Circuit gold ring. What’s more, it was his second taste of victory in a month. In August, Sun topped a 324-entry field to win the MSPT Majestic Star $1,100 Main Event for $71,945, which was his second MSPT title after becoming the 2016 Iowa State Poker Champion at Meskwaki Casino.

“I feel great. Think I’ll go get a nice dinner and party like a rockstar,” Sun said after the win.
