Walter is Half A Second Too Late

Level 12 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Viktor Walter
Viktor Walter

In the final hand before the break, Viktor Walter saw a {q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} flop with Zhong Chen and bet 21,000. Chen raised to 65,000 and Walter called. Both players checked the {5-Diamonds} on the turn.

Walter quickly checked the {9-Spades} on the river. Chen took around five seconds before splashing in four T-25,000 chips. Walter went deep in the tank and eventually got the clock called on him. The tournament director called down to one second and ruled the hand dead.

Walter called half a second after the final second was counted down and appeared briefly confused for a second. However, his call was outside the allocated time and Chen won the hand without showdown.

Walter flashed his {a-Spades}{j-Hearts} but Chen didn't reciprocate and mucked his hand. Afterwards, the field went on their final 15-minute break of the night.

Morgenstern Has a Good Hand

Level 12 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

The board read {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{9-Clubs} with around 80,000 in the middle already.

Fabian Gumz and Michael Sklenicka had both checked their blinds and Anton Morgenstern bet 45,000 from the cutoff. Gumz quickly let his hand go and Sklenicka made the call.

The river completed the board with the {a-Diamonds} to pair the board. Sklenicka checked again. Morgenstern glanced at the board and his opponent before looking at his cards again. He took a few seconds to consider his options before betting 80,000. Sklenicka contemplated for a while and Morgenstern sipped his drink while waiting for Sklenicka to decide. In the end, Sklenicka opted to fold.

"I had a good hand!" Morgenstern claimed.

Trajkovski Bubbles the Final Table

Level 12 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

A short-stacked Aleksandar Trajkovski stuck it in from the small blind and Fabian Gumz looked him up from the big blind.

Aleksandar Trajkovski: {q-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
Fabian Gumz: {k-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

No help for the Macedonian on {a-Clubs}{10-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Spades}{10-Diamonds} to make him the 10th place finisher. Akan Kaya busted shortly before in 11th place; the remaining nine will redraw for the final table.

Lights Out

Level 11 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Preflop, Yunsheng Sun's final chips went in with {a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} against Anton Morgenstern's {j-}{j-}. Much to Morgenstern's surprise, the best hand held up on a board that brought both an ace and a jack to end Sun's attempt in 12th place.

Chen Doubles Again

Level 11 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Jason Gray raised to 20,000, Zhong Chen three-bet shoved 175,000, and Gray called it off for the majority of his stack.

Zhong Chen: {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Jason Gray: {5-Hearts}{5-Spades}

The {j-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{q-Hearts} smashed Chen and drew an "oh-la-laa" from his French neighbor Akan Kaya. The {j-Diamonds} on the turn paired the board to open a potential runner-runner for Gray.

"No, no!" yelled Chen in Dutch and his request got met with the {k-Clubs} on the river to suddenly make him one of the chipleaders. Gray busted shortly after the hand.

Miracle Backdoor Saves Chen

Level 11 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Zhong Chen
Zhong Chen

Zhong Chen shoved it in from early position for 51,000 and Moritz Dietrich came over the top for a little under 100,000. Anton Morgenstern announced "gamble" and called as well from the big blind.

Zhong Chen: {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Moritz Dietrich: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Anton Morgenstern: {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}

Everyone had something to root for preflop, but it was Morgenstern who all but sealed it after the {6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop. Moritz was drawing dead after the {j-Diamonds} turn, but Chen found a lifeline and jolted from his seat in anticipation.

The {8-Diamonds} fell on the river to complete his backdoor flush, and Chen pumped his fist and celebrated loudly. The rest of the table, including Morgenstern, could appreciate Chen's good-natured spirit and celebrated along with the Dutchman.
