Cooking Up Ducks

Ray Cook raised to 1,600. Bill Elliot called from the cutoff and the big blind called as well. The flop came down {A-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {2-Spades} and the big blind checked. Cook raised all in for 20,500. Elliot called and the big blind folded.

Cook showed {2-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} and Elliot showed {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}. The turn came the {8-Spades} and the river the {7-Spades}, to keep Cook's set good. He was able to double up to 43,000.

Michael Johnson Passes 200K

With the board reading {J-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} on the river, Michael Johnson checked, the button moved all in for 20,000 into a pot that had already swelled to over 60,000. Johnson (not the sprinter) insta-called.

The button turned over {Q-?} {Q-?}. Johnson exclaimed "YESSSSS!" and proudly tabled his {A-?} {A-?}.

After the hand, Johnson was up to 201,000.

Time to Go Back to Bed, Baby

Scotty Nguyen's chip stack slowly dwindled throughout the first two levels of play. He moved all in for his last 4,000 and was called by Alexandre Schwab. Nguyen's pocket nines were in bad shape against Schwab's pocket kings until the flop came {4-Hearts} {A-Hearts} {9-Hearts}. Schwab held the {K-Hearts} however, so Nguyen needed to fade a fourth heart. He couldn't do it when the turn and river came {5-Diamonds} {7-Hearts}.

Nguyen showed up late and departs early.

On the Big Stage

Chau Giang (from Day 1b) is playing at the ESPN Feature Table today
Over at today's ESPN feature table, the two big stacks entering play today were Garth Paul with over 91,000 and Chau Giang with over 87,000.

The crowd has been fairly quiet thus far today, although we did hear some noise during Level 1 when Giang made a straight flush to win a pot.

The Big Three

Dan Lu, Hogan Meyer and another player just fought it out preflop bringing along their weapons of choice.

For Lu it was {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades}, for Meyer it was {K-Diamonds} {K-Clubs}, and for their opponent it was {Q-Spades} {Q-Diamonds}.

The board ran {6-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {5-Hearts}. The stopping power of the pocket rockets held up to nearly triple Lu up to 60,000. Meyer, on the other hand, is sitting in a pool of exit blood.

Chewey Lam Eliminated

Chewey Lam moved all in from the cutoff and Scott Warren made the call for his last 6,500 from the small blind. Lam's pocket deuces were up against Warren's {A-Clubs} {Q-Spades}. The flop was {J-Spades} {9-Clubs} {8-Diamonds}.

"HOLD!" implored Lam.

The turn was the {K-Diamonds}.

"Come on, HOLD!" he yelled again.

The {A-Hearts}, though, spiked on the river and Warren raked in the pot. Chewey was down to only 13,000 after the hand.

A few hands later, Chewey moved all in over the top of Warren's UTG raise from the button and was called. His {J-Hearts} {9-Clubs} needed some serious help against Warren's {Q-Spades} {Q-Hearts}. Chewey couldn't improve on the {K-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {K-Spades} {7-Spades} board and he hit the rail.

After the hand, Warren was up to 46,000.

Deeb Takes Down Another

Shaun Deeb made it 1,600 to go preflop and was called by a player in the small blind. The flop fell {5-Clubs} {5-Spades} {9-Hearts} and the small blind fired 2,000 into the pot. Deeb called and the turn brought the {2-Spades}. Both players checked to see the {7-Hearts} fall on the river. The small blind fired out 5,000 and Deeb called. Deeb showed A-K for ace-high, which was good to take the hand down.

Fricke Flushed

Jimmy Fricke, during Event #53
Jimmy Fricke, during Event #53
Jimmy Fricke was battling with a short stack and looked set to double up with {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} but instead found himself heading to the rail as his opponent rivered a flush holding {Q-Spades}{9-Spades}.
