Can't Choose When to Use Your Luck

You only hit a set roughly one in seven times. It's pretty bad to find yourself up against an over pair to yours. It's a really frustrating when you lose up some of your luck hitting your set only for your opponent to hit a set too. You may as well not hit you set and save the luck for another time.

Nick Binger got it all in preflop with pocket threes and was isolated by his neighbor with pocket kings. A sweet looking three appeared on the flop but so did a nasty looking king. One Binger down.

Variance...

Jesse Rios - Photograph taken before set over set action presumably.
Jesse Rios may have been the early chip leader but now he's back to Earth with a bump. First losing a big pot on a {4-?} {3-?} X board with {3-?} {3-?} to {4-?} {4-?} and then he lost {Q-?} {Q-?} to {A-?} {K-?}.

Clearly he had overdrawn on his flip tokens early on with the consistent Aces-cracking and this was poker gods' way of restoring the balance.

Rios has been left with 7,500.

Would You Lay This Down?

This hand went down just before the break...

A player UTG makes it 700, gets a caller from Nick Binger on the button before the small blind three bets to 2,000. UTG calls but Binger folds.

The flop came {Q-Hearts} {2-Spades} {5-Clubs} before SB moved all-in for just over 2,500. UTG dwells for a good two minutes before folding pocket kings face-up!

Small Part Of England

Despite the vastness of the field, the table draws throw a few curveballs. One such is that Andrew 'Tufat' Teng and Sunny Chattha, both of whom have won GUKPTs in the past year have managed to end up sitting next to each other. Both have chips and Sean Sheikhan is also present on the table.

Sheikhan -- 6,000
Chattha -- 7,200
Teng -- 8,800

John's Phanished!

Phan or Phantom?
Phan or Phantom?
Looking around for John Phan is fairly tough as he seems to have disappeared from the tournament area.

Meanwhile Daniel Negreanu has just Twittered that he is out. {A-?} {K-?} against {K-?} {K-?}.

Get it in Good

All you can do in poker is get it in good and hope variance is leaning your way. Eric Brewstein came along to tell me he did just that but was eliminated anyway.

It was a four way raised pot before the flop came down {J-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {9-Clubs}. Brewstein moved in and another player called saying he'd give him a double-up and tabled {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}.

Brewstein's {A-Clubs} {A-Spades} was looking good through the {6-Spades} turn but the {7-Diamonds} river completed the flush and he was gone.

Wasn't A Phan Of The Flop

John Phan is now periously close to elimination after calling bets of 2,000 and 2,500 on the turn and river of an {8-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {10-Clubs} {3-Spades} {9-Diamonds} board, only to be shown {Q-Clubs} {J-Clubs} for the flopped straight. Phan flashed the {K-Diamonds} as he mucked his hand.
