Needles In The Haystack

Seeing the Pavillion Room pumping really is a sight to behold. If you're in Vegas, then we strongly suggest checking out the action down here at some point. There are tables are far as the eye can see, and a constant ruffling of chips echoes throughout the room.

We found a few more "needles" hiding in the haystack of humanity. They include:

Shawn Buchanan
Jimmy Fricke
Jonathan Little
John Duthie
David Pham
Adam Junglen
David Williams
Jeremiah Smith
Joe Sebok
Isaac Haxton
Kevin Saul
Andrew Lichtenberger
Mark Seif
Lauren Kling

Poker Stars Out In Force

While there are swarms of poker stars out on the felt today, the PokerStars team appear to be well represented as we've already spotted the likes of Vanessa Rousso, Maria Maridu Mayrinck, Hevad Khan, André Akkari, Bertrand Elky Grospelier, Noah Boeken, Gavin Griffin, Jason Mercier, Humberto Brenes and 2009 World Series of Poker Champion Joe Cada amongst the sea of starters for this event.

Notables in the Feld

As more and more players trickle into the Pavilion Room, a number of recognizable faces can be seen at the tables.

Beth Shak
Eric Baldwin
Alan Smurfit
Faraz Jaka
Matthew Graham
Annette Obrestad
Neil Channing
Jon Turner

You Can't Play Poker By Yourself

As expected, there are many empty seats around the Pavillion Room as players are yet to arrive for this event. However the late arrivals have more impact in a short-handed event like this as many tables are playing four, three and sometimes even two-handed.

That was the case at Joe Kustosz's table...well for the first five minutes of play anyway. You'd think that Kustosz and his opponent might be content to accumulate some dead blinds for a little while, but it wasn't to be, as they got a little excited on a {3-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop.

The action went bet, raise, all in, and Kustosz had a decision for his tournament life. He decided to call with his {K-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for middle pair and second nut flush draw as his opponent tabled {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs} for the nut flush draw with two overcards. The turn was the {2-Spades} and river the {10-Spades}, and suddenly Kustosz has a double stack and is currently sitting at his table all alone!

Shuffle Up and Deal

Tournament Director Jack Effel just gave the announcement to shuffle up and deal. There are still quite a few empty seats in the Pavilion Room but the action is under way.
