Lucky River for Shulman

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

TJ Shulman opened to 8,500 and the player on the button raised it to 18,500. Shulman made the call and the dealer revealed a flop {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}. Shulman first checked and raised all in his opponent's bet of 20,000. The latter ended up making the call and the players tabled their cards:

TJ Shulman: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
His opponent: {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}

Shulman was covered and had to hit on the board. The turn {2-Spades} brought him no help but a {j-Hearts} fell on the river, giving him a better set as well as the double up.

Liebert Arrives With a Mountain of Chips

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Chris "Jesus" Ferguson and Vanessa Kade are seated at the same table, along with big-stacked Wim Verhaegen, who's sitting on an above-average stack of 185,000 chips.

That stack was eclipsed, however, when Kathy Liebert arrived at the table and started un-racking a stack of 385,000.

Liebert is seated right next to Ferguson, and the two were reminiscing about a poker cruise from 17 years ago that apparently involved Phil Hellmuth getting heated about an attempted bluff. It's fascinating to picture the scene from this cruise full of poker legends, circa 2002.

Aces Are not Good for Hellmuth

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

The button player opened to 10,000 and Phil Hellmuth raised it to 40,000 from the blinds. The initial player called and the flop fell {k-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}. Both players checked.

Things heated on the turn {9-Hearts} after Hellmuth check-raised all in after his opponent bet 50,000. The latter ended up calling for a stack of 193,500 to create the following showdown:

Phil Hellmuth: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}
His opponent: {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

Hellmuth stood up from his chair, seeing two pair in his opponent's hand and his pocket aces cracked. The river {6-Diamonds} didn't change anything and Hellmuth was left with 33,000 after that hand. The owner of 15 WSOP bracelets busted a few minutes later.

Carroll Chipping Up

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

The player in middle position opened to 10,000, and Taylor Carroll, in the big blind, jammed for about 93,000. The player in mid-position called, putting at risk his last 85,000.

Opponent: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
Taylor Carroll: {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

The runout was {3-Clubs}{a-Spades}{k-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and Carroll won the pot with his pair of aces, sending his opponent to the rail.

Tuhrim Sends One Out to Burst the Money Bubble

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Richard Tuhrim raised to 8,000 under the gun, and the player on the cutoff moved all in for about 95,000. Action folded back to Turhrim who made the call.

Opponent: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Richard Tuhrim: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}

The board came {7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and Tuhrim took down the pot, eliminating his opponent empty-handed on the bubble. The remaining 1,322 players are all guaranteed at least $2,249.
