Normand Bets the Chop and Chops

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

On a board of {j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{q-Spades} after both players checked the turn with 7,600 in the middle, Frederic Normand bet 5,000 from middle position, and his opponent in the big blind check-called.

Normand tabled his {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}, and when the big blind tabled his {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, the pot was chopped up.

Harrison Faces Three Barrels

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

Boxing Olympic gold medalist Audley Harrison is used to tussling in the ring. Just now though he faced some aggression from his opponent across the felt.

It started with a 1,200 open on the cutoff and Harrison and another player came along in the small and big blinds. The flop was {8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and it checked to the preflop aggressor who made it 3,200 to continue. Only Harrison called. The {4-Diamonds} turn paired the board and Harrison check-called again, for 5,000 this time.

The river was the {5-Spades} and after a short time in the tank, Harrison checked and his opponent put another 5,000 chip over the line. The third barrel was too much for Harrison who opted to let it go and his opponent turned over {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} for an overpair to the board.

Epic Tank Pays Dividends For Hans

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

With 24,000 already in the middle, Ayaz Mahmood jammed his last 13,900 from the big blind, which sent Nicolas Hans into the tank. A few minutes in, Hans asked the dealer to spread the pot. Around the six minute mark, Hans then asked the dealer to break down the stack of Mahmood to confirm the amount. Three more minutes would pass before Mahmood called the clock.

Before the floor could begin counting down the clock, Hans called, and Mahmood patted the table, showing {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for a bluff. Hans rolled over {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} for a pair of eights, and Mahmood was eliminated.

Olshan Stays Alive

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

There was a raise to 1,200 and Dietrich Fast called from the hijack. Sharman Olshan shoved all in for her last 8,400 chips in the big blind. The initial raiser folded and Fast called to put Olshan at risk.

Sharman Olshan: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
Dietrich Fast: {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

It was a coin flip and Sharman stayed in front on the flop of {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}{4-Spades}. The {q-Clubs} on the turn gave Olshan a full house and Fast bricked the {2-Clubs} on the river as he sent over a double up.

Madsen Doubles One

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

Craig Madsen, sitting under the gun, faced an all-in bet from a player in the big blind as they'd made it to the {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} turn with 14,000 in the middle. The shove was worth 13,500 and Madsen tank-called, learning that his {a-Spades}{j-Clubs} was dominated by {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. The {4-Hearts} didn't help Madsen who dropped to 19,000.

Ramos' Main Event Ends in the Gutter

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante
Felipe Ramos (earlier this summer)
Felipe Ramos (earlier this summer)

The by now infamous abandoned bowling alley at the Rio has claimed a second high-profile victim on Day 1c of the 2019 Main Event. After Phil Ivey struck out in the early stages, it was Brazilian star Felipe Ramos who had to part ways from the same room during the third level of the day.

"I lost two big hands during the first level of the day," Ramos told PokerNews. "Old gentleman to my left, very friendly, super nice guy, makes it 1,000, one player calls, I call {6-}{6-} from the big blind. Flop comes {k-}{10-}{6-} with two hearts. I check, he bets 3,000, other guy calls, I check-raise to 10,500, he calls, and then the other guy raises to 30,000!

I tank for five minutes and fold, other gentleman goes all in with {a-}{a-} and the third guy had {10-}{10-}," Ramos explained how he got away relatively unscathed after flopping set under set.

Ramos then picked up {k-Hearts}{5-Hearts} on the button and raised to 500. An opponent made it 1,300 from the small blind and he called to see an all-heart {j-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{3-Hearts} flop appear. Ramos' opponent bet 2,300, Ramos raised to 6,000 and his opponent instantly shoved all in.

"I tank forever but I cannot fold this hand, even when it's Day 1 of the Main. I call and he shows the dream!" Ramon excitingly said about his opponent's {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}, making him a 97% favorite to win the hand. However, the turn and river ran out {8-} and {q-} to improve his opponent to an unlikely boat and Ramos was left with 13,100 in level 1.

Short stacked, he continued for two more levels before losing his final chips with {a-}{q-} to {10-}{10-} and busted out of the Main Event early.
