Day 2 of the $50,000 Poker Players Championship has been played to its conclusion with Paul Volpe emerging as the new chip leader after another six levels of play. Volpe, who holds three gold bracelets, was the only player to bag over a million chips (1,092,000).

Play began on Day 2 with 44 players (up from the 39 players that bagged from Day 1) and increased periodically throughout the day until reaching a total of 63 by the time late registration ended. Among the new entries were Jesse Klein (656,000), Alex Livingston (872,000), Chris Brewer (715,000), Nick Schulman (723,000), Cary Katz (197,000) and Dan “Jungleman” Cates (944,000) – who made his 2021 WSOP debut and will be looking to improve on his sixth-place finish in the 2019 Poker Players Championship.

Notably absent was the defending champion Phil Hui, who has yet to make an appearance at the series this year.

Other players who managed to bag into Day 3 include Day 1 chip leader Bryce Yockey (510,000), Eli Elezra (700,000), Anthony Zinno (415,000), and Daniel Negreanu, who managed to run his 77,000 in chips at the beginning of Day 2 up to 655,000 by the day’s end.

By the end of the day, just 35 players remained. Some players who were less fortunate include Frank Kassela, George Wolff, Benny Glaser, Shaun Deeb, and previous PPC champions Michael Mizrachi and Freddy Deeb – all of whom were eliminated over the course Day 2.

Phil Hellmuth, who entered late into Day 2, was also unable to survive after being eliminated by a turned gutshot of George Alexander and failing to improve with a set.

The 63 entries generated a $3,016,125 total prize pool. Ten spots will pay, with the eventual winner taking home $954,020 in addition to a WSOP gold bracelet and the right to have their name engraved in the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy.

Brewer Doubles Through Yockey

Level 12 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Pot-Limit Omaha

On the second to last hand of the night, Chris Brewer and Bryce Yockey had built a sizeable pot on a board showing {k-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{9-Hearts}.

Brewer bet 140,000 on the {3-Diamonds} river, and Yockey did not take long before announcing a raise to put Brewer all-in. Brewer called immediately and turned over {9-Clubs}{7-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Spades} for the nut straight. Yockey showed {6-Hearts}{2-Spades} for a smaller straight and slid the chips over to Brewer.

Elezra Jams the River

Level 12 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

No-Limit Hold'em

Three ways to the {j-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{7-Hearts} turn, Eli Elezra checked out of the big blind and the same applied for Robert Campbell from under the gun. Chad Campbell then bet 100,000 on the button, which Elezra reluctantly called and another call behind followed.

Elezra jammed the {4-Diamonds} river and his two opponents folded. "I wish I had what I was repping," Chad Campbell said in table chat.

Lamb Takes From Ramos

Level 12 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Razz

Ben Lamb and Felipe Ramos were heads up to fourth street, when Ramos bet and Lamb called.

Ben Lamb: {x-}{x-} / {8-}{k-}{3-}{7-}
Felipe Ramos: {x-}{x-} / {5-}{q-}{3-}{a-}

Ramos continued betting on fifth and sixth streets, and Lamb continued calling. On seventh street, Ramos checked and Lamb fired a bet. Ramos called and Lamb turned over {9-}{5-}{2-} for 8-7-5-3-2 and Ramos slid his cards into the muck.

Ace Good Enough For Elezra

Level 12 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Limit 2-7 Triple Draw

Action folded around to the blinds, where Eli Elezra raised from the small and was called by Robert Campbell in the big.

Elezra drew one and Campbell drew two. Campbell then called a bet from Elezra.

Both players drew one on the second draw and this time Elezra check-called a bet from Campbell.

Both players drew one again on the final draw and then checked down.

Elezra showed an ace and Campbell motioned that it was good. Elezra then revealed his entire holding of {a-}{8-}{7-}{6-}{2-} and Campbell mucked — conceding the pot to Elezra.
