Kogel Bombs the River

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Nathanael Kogel
Nathanael Kogel

There was an early position raise to 16,000 and the action folded to Nathanael Kogel in late position who made the call. The big blind defended and they were off to a flop three ways.

The 6Q9 flop hit the felt and the preflop raiser put out a bet of 20,000. Kogel made the call and the big blind got out of the way.

The 5 turn landed and the early position player continued his story putting out a bet of 35,000. Kogel smooth called again.

The 9 hit the river and the early position player now slowed down and checked.

When the action was on Kogel he didn't wait long before assembling a hefty bet of 87,000 and before he could even get the chips all the way into the middle the early position player snap called.

Kogel turned over 87 for a turned nut straight and his opponent put his cards in the muck.

Mattioda Loses Cards, Wins Pot

Level 14 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Paul Mattioda

PokerNews was told of a very interesting hand from a little earlier in the day by Paul Mattioda.

As told by Mattioda, action opened with the player under the gun raising to 5,500. A player in middle position called. Mattioda, in the hijack, then went all in for 6,500. Both players called.

As the 9x5x2x flop was being dealt, the player in middle position wished Mattioda luck. "Thanks," he said, "it's been a long day."

Mattioda then looked down to see that he had no cards in front of him, and that his cards appeared to have been placed on top of the muck. Tournament staff was called over, and it was determined that the dealer had accidentally mucked Mattioda's cards. After a lengthy discussion and video review, a tournament official pulled Mattioda aside and asked if he could name his exact two cards.

"Ace of hearts, ace of clubs," said Mattioda. The staff retrieved the top two cards from the muck (out of view of other players still in the hand) and returned them to Mattioda. With action restarted, the player under the gun bet 10,000, and the player in middle position folded.

Paul Mattioda: AA
Opponent: 1010

The turn and river ran clean, and Mattioda tripled up.
