Bad Aces... are Still Aces

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

After a preflop betting war, Mallory Frere got it all in against another player, whom he covered.

Player: KJ98All in
Mallory Frere: AA72

"Yeah, I know, they're bad aces," Frere admitted, and some of the other players agreed they would rather have his opponent's hand.

But just like that, the flop came out 223 to improve Frere to trip deuces for a big lead. The turn 6 gave his opponent some life with a flush draw, but it was not to be as the river was the 4 to send him to the rail.

"Hey, bad aces are still aces," one of the other players said as Frere raked in the pot.

In what was intended to be a conversation about a slew of near misses over his career, Michael Rocco flipped the script when he revealed that the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) would be his last full series for many years.

And the reason why he'll be reducing his volume at the tables may come as a bit of a shock.

During a break in Event #94: $10,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em Championship, he told PokerNews that he has acquired a farm in the last year, and intends to shift his focus to that venture over his card-playing exploits.

Welch Scoops with Straight

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

On a three-way turn of 9A42, Bill Welch and two other players got all the chips in, with Welch as the middle stack.

Player 1: A784All in
Bill Welch: 9953All in
Player 2: AQ62

Welch had a stranglehold on the hand with his turned nut straight and backup set of nines, all he needed to do was fade an ace or a spade.

Luckily for him, the river was the brick Q and he scooped the entire pot to eliminate the shorter stack.
