Cates Leaves Himself Short

Level 17 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

In the final hand of the previous level, Stephen Chidwick raised to 75,000 in early position. Dan Cates called in middle position, and Jason Mercier did so on the button.

The three players checked through the 97J flop before Chidwick bet 75,000 on the 8 turn. Cates called, but Mercier got out of the way.

Chidwick checked the 6 river over to Cates, who bet 250,000, about two-thirds of his stack. Chidwick quickly put in the rest, and Cates made a frustrated fold as he was left with just over three big blinds for the new level.

Level 16 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Manuel Stojanovic raised from the hijack to 75,000, and only Joni Jouhkimainen called on the button.
