2025 World Series of Poker
“You’ve just missed one of the craziest hands on a Day 1,” a player at Table #479 told PokerNews. According to him, with help from others at the table, Scott Kahler opened from the cutoff and Bin Weng three-bet to 6,000 from the small blind.
Weng checked the 7♥6♦4♠ flop and Kahler bet 4,500. Weng called, then check-called again for 21,000 on the 4♥ turn.
After Weng checked the A♥ river, Kahler moved all-in for roughly 120,000. Weng tanked for a long time before making the call and say: “You guys don’t know who I am!”
What stunned his tablemates was that Weng called with 7♦3♦ for two pair. But it turned out to be the right call, as Kahler only held KxJ♥. He was eliminated and quickly left the room.
James Bechtel had put in 7,000 preflop, after which Brian Borst moved all in for 19,500. William Zgorski went in over the top for 20,200, and Bechtel asked for both stacks to be counted before committing a call.
Brian Borst: A♣Q♠
William Zgorski: K♦K♣
James Bechtel: 2♠2♣
The entire table was left stunned as the 5♠7♦8♠2♦ turn made Bechtel a set. The A♠ river did not change anything, and Borst and Zgorski silently left the table.
Action was joined as Curtis Freeze had manoeuvred the remains of his stack, roughly 21,500, into the middle versus Mark Lewandowski.
It was bad news for Freeze when the cards were turned onto their backs, and he saw what he was up against.
Curtis Freeze: K♦Q♥
Mark Lewandowski: K♣K♥
Freeze had one foot out the door, and it looked certain the other would be following it on the 5♥5♦2♣ flop.
The 2♥ turn confirmed his fate, and while the dealer was burning and turning the A♥ river, Freeze was gathering his belongings to leave.
After several preflop raises, Kyle Welsh's stack of 36,300 was in the middle from under the gun against Mamoon Al Rubayee in the big blind, who had him covered.
Kyle Welsh: Q♠Q♣
Mamoon Al Rubayee: A♠A♣
The 10♣8♦3♣3♥8♠ board provided no help for either player, sending Welsh to the exit.
Steven Venclauskas had pushed in his last 16,000 preflop from early position, and was looked up by Katherene Lundgren in the big blind.
Steven Venclauskas: A♠4♠
Katherene Lundgren: K♠K♥
The 2♥6♦9♥10♥J♠ flop remained free of aces, setting Venclauskas' elimination in stone.
There were roughly 21,000 in the pot on 5♠J♥8♠K♣Q♦.
Lucas Blanco Oliver, who was in early position, put Christopher Puetz all in for roughly 30,000 on the river.
Puetz went deep into the tank before finding the call button, but got shown the bad news as Oliver tabled a set with J♠J♦, Puetz tabled A♠K♦ before exiting the tournament.
After Martin Spatt limped in first position, Wagner Wysotchanski raised to 2,500 in the hijack and Joseph Clark called on the button. In the big blind, David Abramowicz moved all in for 41,000 which saw Spatt fold, Wysotchanski shove for more, and Clark folded behind what he said was AxKx.
David Abramowicz: 9♥9♠
Wagner Wysotchanski: Q♣Q♦
The board ran out J♥5♥7♣J♠K♠ and the queens and jacks were good for Wysotchanski to take down the pot and eliminate Abramowicz from the tournament.
