2025 World Series of Poker
Brian Devany was all in from middle position in a three-way pot against Rahul Deevara in the big blind and Kohei Arai in the cutoff on a board of Q♠4♣3♠5♣.
Deevara checked on the turn and Arai bet 350,000. Deevara called. Deevara then bet 650,000 on the 7♠ river and Arai folded.
Deevara showed Q♣9♣ for a pair of queens and it was good to beat the ace-high of A♣10♣ as both players missed their flush draws.
"I thought I wanted a club!" said Deevara as Devany was sent to the rail.
Johan Schumacher began the action with a raise to 125,000 from middle position and was called by Murly Manokharan on the button.
Jonathan Wolter wanted to play a bigger pot and raised to 475,000 from the small blind. Schumacher responded with a jam, while Manokharan folded. Wolter paused just a moment to take in the situation before he called to be at risk with his 2,200,000 stack.
Jonathan Wolter: J♥J♣
Johan Schumacher: A♠K♦
Wolter held the edge with the made pair to start, but the flop was a disaster from his perspective as it came A♣6♦6♣ to propel Schumacher into the lead.
The 3♥ turn and the 9♠ did not offer any solace for Wolter as he was eliminated.
John Petro raised to 100,000 under the gun and Aaron Overton three-bet to 250,000 in early position. Yuta Mutsuura then four-bet to 450,000 in the hijack and Petro folded, but Overton moved all in for 1,320,000. Mutsuura called to put him at risk.
Aaron Overton: A♠A♣
Yuta Mutsuura: K♣K♥
Overton had picked up aces against Mutsuura's kings and was poised for the double-up as the A♦6♣5♠ flop improved him to top set. Mutsuura was already drawing dead after the 8♥ turn, while the J♦ completed the board on the river and sealed Overton's double-up.
Braxton Dunaway raised to 100,000 in the cutoff and Brian Hastings three-bet to 325,000 on the button. The blinds folded and Dunaway called to see a flop of 10♠6♣5♠. Dunaway checked to Hastings who continued with a bet of 225,000 and Dunaway called.
The turn brought the Q♦ and Dunaway checked again. Hastings counted out a bet of 600,000 and Dunaway check-raised all in for around 2,500,000. Hastings gave it some thought and then called off his stack of around 2,400,000 which Dunaway barely had covered.
Brian Hastings: A♣Q♥
Braxton Dunaway: 6♠6♦
Hastings turned top pair but was drawing dead against the set from Dunaway. Hastings exited the tournament area and Dunaway joined the leaders near the end of Day 5.
Mark Shutley opened to 110,000 from early position with A♠A♣ and received calls from Wagner Wysotchanski in the cutoff with 7♠7♣, Lautaro Guerra in the small blind with A♥10♥ and Benjamin Winsor in the big blind with Q♦J♠.
The flop came 7♦8♥6♠ and action checked around to Wysotchanski who bet 250,000. Guerra folded, Winsor folded and Shutley check-raised to 775,000. Wysotchanski shoved, covering Shutley who had 1,400,000 behind.
Shutley went deep into the tank for nearly ten minutes before folding his aces and Wysotchanski took the pot down without showdown.
Fraser MacIntyre got his last 2,000,000 in the middle from the big blind as Kohei Arai put him at risk in the cutoff.
Fraser MacIntyre: J♥J♠
Kohei Arai: K♦K♥
MacIntyre showed down a pair of jacks, but Arai had woken up with kings and was a big favorite to score the knockout. The board ran out 7♥8♠2♥10♠4♥ and MacIntyre was sent to the rail.
Luis Nargentino open-jammed a stack of 215,000 from the hijack and Nicholas Ramsey called in the cutoff to put him at risk.
Luis Nargentino: A♥K♣
Nicholas Ramsey: K♥J♣
"Just an ace," Eric Afriat said as the flop landed 10♥A♣4♠ to give Nargentino his ace while also giving Ramsey Broadway outs. The Q♦ turn gave Ramsey the straight as the 2♣ river confirmed Nargentino's elimination.
Ralph Salonia opened from the button, Adam Hendrix three-bet shoved with a covering stack from the big blind and Salonia, who started with 1,200,000, called and was at risk.
Ralph Salonia: A♠K♥
Adam Hendrix: 8♣8♠
Hendrix's pocket eights held up on the 3♦9♣6♦2♠2♦ runout to send Salonia to the rail and take down another sizable pot.
