2025 World Series of Poker
Yaichi Fukao opened from late position, seeing Stefanita Fechete jam in his last 350,000 or so from the big blind. Fukao looked him up to put Fechete at risk.
Stefanita Fechete: 9♠9♥
Yaichi Fukao: A♥10♥
Fukao flopped best on 5♦A♣K♥, and Fechete failed to find a nine on the 4♠4♣ runout. Fechete said his goodbyes to his former table, wishing his former opponents good luck.
Christopher Alcindor had started the day with a mere 12 and a half big blinds and just invested all but one of them to the A♣K♥J♦ flop on which he checked. Andrejs Prost bet 25,000 to cover the last bit of Alcindor, who went into the tank and jokingly asked Prost how much he started with before a forced smile saw him fold and walk to the rail.
In the very next hand on that table, Scott Allacher raised to 50,000 and James Charbonneau three-bet to 140,000 two seats over. Justin Liberto four-bet jammed for 525,000 and Allacher folded, while Charbonneau called rather swiftly.
Justin Liberto: K♣K♦
James Charbonneau: 9♦9♥
The superior pocket pair remained ahead on the Q♣3♣3♠4♣5♠ runout, and Liberto doubled.
Soon after that, Alcindor was eliminated after he couldn't spin up the one big blind and change.
It had been a slow start in the Horseshoe Gold section withPokerNews witnessing six consecutive raise-folds.
Finally, there was action at Table 637 as Justin Pechie opened to 50,000 on the button and Raja Chirumamilla three-bet jammed a stack of 450,000 in the small blind. Sergio Veloso then shoved a stack of 1,565,000 from the big blind to put Pechie to a decision.
"There's no way," he said. "Sorry if I'm nitrolling you."
After hearing that, Veloso immediately called the clock, but the dealer told him enough time hadn't passed. Soon after, Pechie called off with a stack of around 1,200,000.
Raja Chirumamilla: 10♠10♣
Justin Pechie: A♥K♦
Sergio Veloso: 9♣9♦
Veloso took a huge lead as the flop landed 4♠9♥Q♦ to give him a set. He was far from gracious after the big suckout, clapping his hands and taking a lap as the board finished out A♠K♣ to earn him a double knockout.
He returned to the table and shook Pechie's hand, but Chirumamilla wasn't in the mood for niceties and headed to the payout counter.
The action folded to Shawn Fagan in the cutoff who ripped all in for around 300,000. Alan Sternberg called on the button and Jeff Gross stuck in the last of his 140,000 chips from the small blind.
Jeff Gross: A♣K♣
Shawn Fagan: Q♣J♥
Alan Sternberg: A♠8♠
The flop came 10♦9♣7♥ and Gross was still in the lead but his opponents had plenty of equity. The turn brought the K♦ to give Fagan the nut straight and both of his opponents were left drawing dead to the 7♣ on the river. Fagan earned nearly a triple up while Gross was sent to the rail early on Day 5.
Garry Gurevich, the youngest player who remained in the Main Event, moved all in for 345,000 from the hijack. It folded back to Sam Darkin, who quickly called in middle position.
Garry Gurevich: A♠Q♠
Sam Darkin: A♦K♦
Gurevich turned a flush draw on 4♦9♠2♥3♠, as well as some chop outs. His Main Event officially came to an end on the A♣ river, however, with his top pair being outkicked by the Big Slick of Darkin.
Michael Mizrachi raised to 40,000 from late position and faced an all-in from Patrik Zidek two seats over for 410,000. Mizrachi called to put Zidek at risk.
Patrik Zidek: J♥J♣
Michael Mizrachi: 8♠8♥
Zidek held a significant lead with a pair of jacks against Mizrachi's eights, but the flop was ominous as it came 7♠10♣9♦ to give Mizrachi an open-ended straight draw.
The 6♣ was a disaster for Zidek, completing Mizrachi's straight, and he was down to just two outs headed to the river.
The A♥ river was not what Zidek needed to survive, and Mizrachi knocked him out of contention.
Octavian Vogele opened to 40,000 from under the gun and Derek Alley just called in middle position. Raul Celaya ripped all in for 300,000 in the small blind and Vogele reshoved all in, forcing Alley to fold.
Raul Celaya: A♣7♠
Octavian Vogele: A♥K♦
The flop came 10♥9♣8♦ and Celaya picked up a wealth of outs considering he was dominated preflop. The turn was the 2♠ and the river was the 8♣ which left Celaya wondering what could have been.
Michael Zulker shoved for 430,000 from the small blind and Stephen Hesse called from the big blind with a covering stack to put him at risk.
Michael Zulker: A♦9♠
Stephen Hesse: A♥A♣
The J♠A♠8♥ flop gave Zulker a backdoor flush draw, but he was drawing dead by the 10♦ turn, and after the 10♥ river fell, he was sent to the rail.
