There's a New Hellmuth Competing at the World Series of Poker

Nicholas Hellmuth
Nicholas Hellmuth

Attempting to make a living playing poker professionally isn't easy when your dad is one of the greatest in the history of the game.

But that's exactly what Nicholas Hellmuth is doing, as he competes in the 2026 World Series of Poker (WSOP). The youngest son of 17-time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth entered Day 1b of Event #34: $500 COLOSSUS on Thursday.

PokerNews caught up with the 23-year-old son of a legend to find out if he plans to follow in his father's footsteps, and just how much the "Poker Brat's" persona has rubbed off on him.

It's no surprise that Phil Hellmuth's kids — Phillip Hellmuth III and Nicholas — play poker. Their father has been competing for WSOP bracelets and appearing on televised poker shows for nearly 40 years. But Nicholas was never pushed into the industry by either parent.

Three-Way Pot For Pappas

Level 22 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Andres Korn limped from the button, Clifford Pappas overlimped from the small blind, and Garrett Crites checked his option from the big blind. The flop came out with J10Q, and everyone checked.

The river 2 saw another bet of 175,000 and Crites called and mucked when Pappas turned over 98 for the straight.

Ural Ousted by Madan

Level 22 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Tolga Ural was all-in for his last 40,000 from middle position for Matthew Davenport to raise to 105,000 from the hijack. Manish Madan called from the small blind while the big blind folded.

The flop came 8A10, Madan check-called the 90,000 continuation-bet of Davenport.

The turn was the 7, Madan barreled a bet of 225,000 into the pot for Davenport to come along to the 5 on the river. Madan continued with a bet of 450,000 for Davenport to think about it before he folded.

Madan tabled the J10 for the rivered flush for Ural to attempt to muck his cards but the dealer revealed he had held the KQ.

Will Someone Bust Please?

Level 22 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Qing Sun in the big blind and Manish Madan in cutoff had already built a pot of 150,000 beside a board of QJ7A3.

Sun fired 165,000 sending Madan to the tank. He took considerable time to think of his next move then bet 350,000, putting Sun all-in if he called.

Sun mulled over the situation then said, "Are we already on the pay jump? Are we on 31?" He then threw his hand on the muck pile.

Madan turned over his hand to show QQ as he scooped the pot. Sun retorted, "You're sneaky. But I did say I'm waiting for the pay jump."
