2026 World Series of Poker
Chip Counts
Event #5: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha
Day 1 Completed
If you have been on social media at any point during the past few weeks, you'll likely have seen an advertisement for a Pot-Limit Omaha training course from Upswing Poker featuring Dylan Weisman, a two-time bracelet winner and a PLO guru. Sales of that course could be set to skyrocket if Weisman continues in the same form he showed on Day 1 of Event #5: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha, where he finished with the chip lead.
The Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas accommodated 716 PLO specialists on Day 1, with 120 of those making it through to Day 2. Weisman, who has bracelets from a $1,000 PLO and a $1,500 PLO event, finished the night with 951,000 chips, or 119 big blinds. The Californian is considered one of the greatest PLO minds, and his showing in this 2026 World Series of Poker (WSOP) event seemed to back up those claims.
Weisman leads Jesse Lonis (906,000) and James Chen (856,000) when play resumes, while bracelet owners Ka Kwan Lau (790,000) and Frank Brannan (625,000) return with top 10 stacks.

Although Weisman has started this event like a house on fire, he'll have to be at his brilliant best to keep ahead of the chasing pack. $5,000 buy-in tournaments tend to attract top-tier players, especially when the game isn't Hold'em. This event is no different.
The likes of Ari Engel (576,000), Renji Mao (495,000), Farid Jattin (468,000), Robert Mizrachi (414,000), Nick Schulman (336,000), Chad Eveslage (314,000), Ben Lamb (285,000), Justin Liberto (275,000), Adam Hendrix (225,000), and Patrick Leonard (176,000) all navigated their way to Day 2.
Play resumes at 12 p.m. local time on May 29 at Level 16, where blinds will be 4,000/8,000 with an 8,000 ante. PokerNews traditional coverage of this exciting event starts then, so tune in and see which PLO stars progress to Day 3.

For years, fans have followed every part of Daniel Negreanu’s World Series of Poker grinds through his vlogs. This week, however, the seven-time WSOP bracelet winner shared something far more personal than a tournament update or high-stakes hand review.
At the start of his latest vlog, Negreanu could be seen doing some light reading from The New Father: A Dad’s Guide to the First Year.
That’s right. KidPoker is about to become DaddyPoker!

In the 967th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, which is sponsored by FanDuel Poker, Chad Holloway, Mike Holtz, and Ben Ludlow are at Level 9 Studio in Las Vegas for the first official episode of the 2026 World Series of Poker (WSOP), which officially got underway with a rather strange hand in which an instruction card found its way onto the flop.
It was a funny start to the summer, which also kicked off with some smaller numbers across town, where the Wynn had an overlay. Is it a sign of things to come in Las Vegas, which has become increasingly more expensive? Speaking of the WSOP getting underway, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi gave the ceremonial "Shuffle up and deal," while Martin Kabrhel is already up to his old antics.
The crew then made a bet on their favorite 25K Fantasy teams. The Lodge reopened in Texas, and Craig Welko claimed RGPS Player of the Year honors. Finally, Ray Kondler of Kondler & Associates came into the studio to share the latest on the current poker tax situation, while Robbie Strazynski dropped by to talk about his upcoming Mixed Game Festival XIV at Bellagio.
Find out all about those stories and more in this week's episode of the PokerNews Podcast! Oh, and be sure to check out the audio version of the PokerNews Podcast that is available on all major podcasting platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and SoundCloud.
