Rocco Valuebluffs Szekeres Out of the Main Event

Level 18 : Blinds 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Michael Rocco
Michael Rocco

The action was caught when the completed board of AQK5K was already dealt. Michael Rocco had bet 374,000 chips, exactly enough to put his opponent Carsten Szekeres all-in.

Szekeres pondered his options for a while before announcing "I can't fold". Rocco tabled A3 for two pair, aces and kings, and Szekeres had to show his 33 for a daring herocall.

"I guess he's not folding an ace," Rocco dryly remarked after Szekeres had exited the tournament area.

Hallay Eliminates Kabir With Over-Bet

Level 18 : Blinds 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Axel Hallay
Axel Hallay

Keneshka Kabir had open-raised preflop from early position and Axel Hallay made the call from the button. Vito Vella also came along from the big blind and the three saw a flop of 269.

Vella checked to Kabir, who made a bet of 75,000. Hallay called, while Vella got out of the way. On the 7 turn, Kabir slowed down and checked, prompting Hallay to bet 125,000 himself. Now it was Kabir who made the call, and the K river completed the board.

Kabir checked once more before Hallay over-bet jammed, covering the 720,000 chips that Kabir had behind. Kabir did not take long before flicking in a call and Hallay showed K7 for two pair.

Kabir had to show his 98 for second pair, as is customary with all-in showdowns. The former chipleader left the tournament area, while Hallay crossed the three-million mark by adding Kabir's chips to his own.

Binar Spikes the River to Double; Sturm Takes Out Liu

Level 18 : Blinds 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Pavel Binar
Pavel Binar

Pavel Binar moved all in for 165,000 on the button and Michele Tocci called in the big blind.

Pavel Binar: Q9
Michele Tocci: K10

The flop came 542 and Tocci took an even bigger lead with a flush draw. The 3 turn was no help to Binar and he was a card away from elimination, but he hit the Q on the river as Tocci flung his arms in the air in frustration before handing over the pot.

At the same time at another table, Wing Po Liu was already all in with a short stack as Leon Sturm and Serkan Kuru went to the river on a board of J10J7J, with 85,000 in the main pot and 125,000 in the side pot.

Sturm then bet another 85,000 from the big blind and Kuru gave it some thought before mucking on the button. Sturm then turned over K10 for a full house and Po's cards hit the muck as the recent bracelet winner was busted shortly before dinner break.

Michael Armstrong
Michael Armstrong

Alf Martinsson raised from the hijack and was called by Michael Armstrong on the button, Alexander Tkatschew also came along in the big blnd as well. The Q33 flop was checked to Armstrong, who continued for 55,000. Tkatschew got out of the way but Martinsson called.

That led the duo to the 5 turn on which Martinsson check-called for another 90,000. The 10 river was checked by the Swede once more and Armstrong pushed all-in. No count was asked upon as Martinsson snap-called.

Already knowing his fate, Armstrong flipped over the KJ for a king-high bluff and Martinsson dealt the final blow with the AA.

"It was fun," the Canadian said on his way out of the tournament area.

Dario Sammartino
Dario Sammartino

Axel Hallay opened to 50,000 in the hijack and Vito Vella called on the button. Dario Sammartino then three-bet to 225,000 in the small blind and both opponents called.

The flop came A94 and Sammartino led out for 180,000. Hallay called, while Vella got out of the way.

Sammartino bet another 400,000 on the 10 turn and Hallay again called. The river was the 3.

Sammartino then moved all in for 855,000. Hallay ripped off his sunglasses as he went deep into the tank.

"Something is telling me to call," he said as he took around five minutes. Hallay eventually called and turned over AQ.

Sammartino, though, had AK and Hallay was once again left shaking his head as the massive pot was pushed to Sammartino.
