Golovanovs Retains Lead Despite Vaid’s Day 1b Challenge as the Fifth Anniversary MPNPT London Breaks Attendance Records

Sankalp Vaid

The MPN Poker Tour London £480 Main Event attracted 615 entrants on its three opening flights including yesterday's Day 1b and Day 1c with more to come with late registration open until the start of today's Day 2 at 1 p.m. GMT. This surpassed the previous biggest MPN Poker Tour stop in Tbilisi in 2015 which featured 610 entrants making this fifth-anniversary event the most well-attended event. with the exception of the MPNPT @ Battle of Malta

The £200,000 guarantee was left in the dust by the dinner break and when registration closes today players will find out exactly how much prize money they will be competing for over the next two days.

Combining with the 52 Day 1a survivors on Thursday will be 128 from Friday's Day 1b and 44 from Friday night's Day 1c. Click here for the full list of Day 2 players so far, in chip count order, and a recap of the day on the MPN Poker Tour Blog.

Leading the hefty returning group is still Day 1a’s chip leader Dmitrijs Golovanovs with 274,000, but Day 1b chip leader Sankalp Vaid (lead image) put on a good show as he battled his day’s 352-strong field to bag 239,000. Day 1c, being a Turbo, did not allow for quite such a level of chip accumulation. Zhongming Liao accumulated a stack of 126,000 to lead the final opening flight.

Plenty of stories developed during the day, including the last-longer challenge for the winners of the Birthday Boy competition. There were three players left in contention at the close with Oskar Wedde (135,000), Yonatan Strosberg (114,000), and Mairold Millert (36,000) still fighting for the MPNPT @ Battle of Malta 2019 package. Meanwhile, both Paul McTaggart (59,000) and Heiki Raidlepp (149,000) progress to Day 2 safe in the knowledge that they’ve locked up Malta packages of their own having already won their All Roads Lead to London last-longer.

Outside the tournament area, those for whom the velvet rope on the live Fish Party sit-and-go was lifted as they picked up free tickets via their side event entry or social media interaction with #MPNPT played the raucous game that has become such a tour favorite. Adrian-Daniel Rachiteanu’s spin and subsequent three-handed win bagged him an MPNPT online weekly freeroll ticket worth €200, prompting an energetic rail to form around the game.

Those consigned to that rail by their fortune in the Main Event last night can still buy back in with the start of Day 2 at 1 p.m. GMT today. As entries cease, the MPN Poker Tour Blog resumes with live coverage, while the live stream kicks off at approximately 4 p.m. GMT featuring the world-renowned commentary combo of Jesse May and Padraig Parkinson.
