James Carroll

James Carroll is an American poker player best known for winning two World Poker Tour Main Event titles. He was also the runner-up in the $1,500 Millionaire Maker event at the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP), where he was accused of chip dumping to eventual champion Jesse Yaginuma when heads-up.

Carroll burst onto the live poker scene in 2010, enjoying several five and six-figure scores during his first 18 months in the live arena. In March 2014, Carroll won the $7,500 WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star Main Event for $1,256,550.

He almost became a WSOP champion in 2018 but finished second in the $1,500 Monster Stack for $640,916.

In April 2019, Carroll won his second WPT title in the $3,500 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown, earning $715,175. In February 2020, he finished third in the $10,000 WPT L.A. Poker Classic Main Event for $431,585.

At the 2025 WSOP, Carroll found himself heads-up against Jesse Yaginuma in the $1,500 Millionaire Maker. Carroll held a nine-to-one chip lead over his opponent, but Yaginuma overturned that deficit and won the event. However, some suspect plays were witnessed on the live stream, leading to accusations of chip dumping to his opponent, not least because Yaginuma stood to win a $1 million bonus if he triumphed.

The WSOP later decided not to award a bracelet for this event and to split the remaining prize money between Carroll and Yaginuma.
