Tom Grigg is another big stack that has emerged early on Day 1b. According to Grigg, he’s been “three-betting with rags and smashing flops”.
Grigg recalled a three-bet with the old seven-four offsuit which struck two pair on the flop to get three streets of value, and from there he’s been running over his table.
“Tournaments are easy when you’re smashing flops!” laughed Grigg as he sits behind 65,000 in chips.
Andrew Hullah already has more chips than our chip leader from Day 1a, and we’re not even half way through the day!
Hullah already had a healthy stack when six players committed 500 apiece to see a flop of . Action checked to Jonathan Karamalikis in early position who bet 1,150. There was one caller before Hullah check-raised from the big blind to 3,000. Karamalikis folded before the third player moved all in for 11,750. Hullah made the call with for bottom set, but he had to fade clubs against his opponent’s flush draw.
The turn was the which didn’t change anything and the bricked the river. Hullah sent one to the rail to move up to a commanding 81,000 in chips.
The numbers are in! A very large 170 players entered on Day 1b, which added with the players from Day 1a, means a total field of 255 players has created a prize pool of $510,000. That is the second largest prize pool for this event in history, but is the largest field for a buy-in of more than $2,000 – the first two years of this tournament were a $2,500 event as opposed to $2,200.
The top 27 players will pick up a piece of the prize pool, with the min-cash worth $4,080. A spot at the final table will lock up $12,240, while the eventual champ will pocket $131,325. Check out the final nine payouts below and checkout the prize pool page for full information.
One of the few ladies in the field, Janette Jennis, has just shown former ANZPT Auckland final tablist Pravin Harji who is boss.
We arrived at the action with Pravin and Jennis involved in the hand on a flop. Harji led for 2,000 and Jennis called. The turn was a and this time Harji bet 3,000. Jennis called and the board was completed with an . Harji decided to check and Jennis immediately jammed her stack of around 15,000 in the middle, announcing “all in”. Harji folded.
The players are back from their break and the cards are back in the air!
Registration is now closed. Looks like a big number today that will push the total field to more than 250. We will have confirmation of those numbers, along with full prize pool information as soon as made available.
