Some notable names have been eliminated late here on Day 1a of the ANZPT Perth Main Event, including Daniel Neilson and Full Tilt ANZPT Ambassador Jonathan "xMONSTERxDONGx" Karamalikis.
Tom Grigg has been trying to run over his table all day, but he has met some resistance from Vlad Rosca two seats to his left.
The two tangled in a recent pot that has left the Full Tilt Ambassador a little shell-shocked.
Rosca started with a raise under the gun and found one caller before Grigg made it 2,650 to go from the small blind. Rosca put in a four-bet to 5,200 which forced a fold from the third player, but Grigg came along to see a flop.
Grigg checked and Rosca bet 4,000. Grigg made the call and the double-paired the board. Grigg tapped the table again and Rosca checked behind to see the appear on the river.
Grigg thought for a moment and checked for a third time, but Rosca tossed out 7,500 into the middle, leaving himself about 10,000 behind. Grigg was sent deep into the tank. He pained over the decision for a good five minutes, apologizing to the table on several occasions.
Grigg eventually tossed his cards into the muck in frustration.
“Do you want to see one?” posed Rosca.
“They are both the same!” declared Grigg who suspected a big pocket pair, but Rosca quickly proved that wrong as he flashed for a complete air-ball.
“Argh! I was so close to calling!” sighed Grigg. “I’m going to lose sleep over that tonight you bastard!”
Rosca climbs to 37,000 as he shows that he’s got some game, while Grigg drops back to 45,000.
We arrived on a board of to see Ivan Zalac move all in for his last 8,300 in chips. His opponent deliberated for a few moments before calling off his remaining chips.
Zalac was sheepish in showing his cards, knowing that his was probably behind, and indeed it was, as was tabled.
“Put a bad beat on him dealer!” pleaded Zalac, but the wasn’t it. Zalac was left with a few hundred in chips, and they were tossed in the middle a few moments later, never to return.
Patrick Healy might have won the 6-Max event last night, but his Main Event has just hit a bump after being forced to give up
on a sizable pot.
We picked it up on the flop of with Healy check-raising to 11,000 after his opponent had bet 4,400. The player called and the turn was the . It put three hearts out there and that was enough for Healy to slow with a check. His opponent announced himself all in for 18,600 which Healy wasn’t pleased about.
It represented most of his remaining chips, and after some thought, Healy let it go. He’s back to a start stack of 20,000.
Lukas Byrns has just fallen to the rail, courtesy of Tony Tartaglia.
The hand began when a player opened to 925 from under the gun. Tartaglia then three bet to 2,575 from middle position and
Byrns moved all in for 6,250 from the small blind. There was a fold from under the gun and then Byrns heard the one word he didn’t want to hear come out of Tartaglia’s mouth: “Aces.”
Tartaglia’s hit the felt, while Byrns tabled .
The board ran out and with that Byrns was eliminated.
Shivan Abdine has just been eliminated from the tournament, while David Stanton has snagged a very large pot.
We arrived at the action with a flop out on the felt and with Stanton having checked to Abdine, who bet an unspecified amount. We say unspecified, as before we could count the bet, Stanton had raised to 2,700, Abdine had moved all in for 12,325 and Stanton had called.
Stanton held for top two pair, while Abdine held for the nut flush draw.
The turn and the river were of no help to Abdine and with that he left the tournament area. Stanton is up to around 45,000 in chips and will be looking for more poker success here in Perth after finishing 26th in the recent Aussie Millions Main Event.
