Pedley's Opponent Hits the River

Michael Pedley may want his chips back. With 300 chips in the middle and the board showing {4-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {3-Spades}, he called a bet of 800 from his opponent. The turn was the {4-Clubs}. Pedley's opponent led out for 1,900 and again Pedley called. On the {10-Diamonds} river, Pedley's opponent bet one more time, for 2,000. Pedley called, then made a noise of disgust when his opponent turned over {A-Clubs} {10-Clubs} for two pair, tens and fours.

Pedley still has plenty of chips to work with -- 18,000, to be exact.

Chan Takes a Big Hit

Johnny Chan
Johnny Chan
Johnny Chan is down but not out. Chan made it 800 to go preflop after Keith Wintermans had opened for 300. Wintermans made the call to see a {A-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {8-Spades} flop. He checked the action to Chan, who bet 900. Wintermans check-raised to 3,000, causing Chan to tank for about a minute before making the call. Both players checked the {J-Spades} turn. When the river fell {2-Spades}, Wintermans bet 2,800. Chan again tanked for about a minute before calling with {7-Clubs} {7-Hearts}, a set of sevens. Wintermans turned over {A-Spades} {K-Clubs} for a running nut flush.

Wintermans now has about 18,500, while Chan is down to 3,150.

Comer Zigs Instead of Zags

Yevgeniy Timoshenko, fresh off his win last week at the APT Macau $5,000 buy-in event, opened the pot for 300. He was raised by Mark Griffiths in late position to 800. Only Michael Comer called the raise.

The flop came {8-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {8-Diamonds}, bringing a bet of 675 from Griffiths. Comer quickly raised 3,000 on top to a total of 3,675. His bet was called.

When the turn came {K-Hearts}, Griffiths led into Comer again, this time for 3,000. Comer raised all in for over 10,000, and Griffiths quickly called all in for less. Comer had {Q-Hearts} {Q-Clubs}, but Griffiths had turned the nut flush with {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts}. Comer had a few remaining outs, but missed them when the river came {5-Diamonds}. He is down to 6,000. Griffiths has doubled to over 20,000.

A New Name Rises to the Top

Aussie Sam Jessop has crested the field as an early chip leader. He recently took down a nice pot and eliminated a player on a board of {Q-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} {7-Hearts} {Q-Hearts}. Jessop's opponent checked to Jessop, who bet 1,500. His opponent check-raised to 3,000, bringing an all in bet from Jessop. His opponent called.

Jessop: {7-Clubs} {7-Spades}
Opponent: {Q-Clubs} {8-Clubs}

The turn was a total trap card for Jessop's opponent, making him trip queens while simultaneously filling Jessop's full house. Jessop's opponent missed his own full house draw when the river came {9-Spades} and was eliminated from the tournament.

Never Mess with Another Man's Rhubarb

Bertrand "Elky" Grospellier has totally taken to his role as The Joker. All of his chips are scattered in front of him and he is continually slinging them around, playing with them, picking them up and dropping them.

His card-playing style is not quite as maniacal. With about 6,000 chips already in the middle, he recently checked behind on a board reading {4-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} and table {Q-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}. His opponent simply mucked.

Grospellier now has about 12,000 in chips.

Seabeast Not Ferocious Enough

Jay "Seabeast" Kinkade called a preflop raise to 450. He was one of three players to do so. Action checked to Kinkade on a flop of {K-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {4-Hearts}. He fired out for 1,000, getting only one caller. Both players checked the turn {J-Spades}. On the river {6-Hearts}, Kinkade's opponent led out for 1,200, prompting a snap-muck from Kinkade.

Kinkade is down to 7,600.

Van Marcus Inches Downwards

Van Marcus
Van Marcus
The board read {4-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {7-Spades} {6-Clubs}. Van Marcus checked, then called a bet of 550 from one opponent. Both players checked the river {8-Hearts}. Marcus turned over {A-?}{9-?}, but Marcus' opponent was one rank better, with {A-?}{10-?}. That pot dropped Marcus' stack to 9,100.

Brown Rockets To Chip Lead

Chad Brown
Chad Brown
With six limpers in the pot before him Chad Brown looked down and found {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades} in the big blind and raised it up to 450. Perhaps his opponents felt like he was just trying to steal the pot as five players made the call.

The flop came down {3-Spades}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and Brown led out for 625. A player in middle position made it 2,000 to go with the player in the cutoff and Brown both making the call.

The turn was the {9-Hearts} and the action checked to the MP player who fired another 3,000 into the middle. Again both opponents called.

The river landed the {4-Diamonds} and again it's checked to the MP player who bet out 2,000. The cutoff folded before Brown check-raised all in for 4,100. The MP player made the call but could only table {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} as Brown's aces were good to take down a massive pot and jump out to an early chip lead with 26,000 chips.

Impressive Turnout

The official number of entries for today was just announced -- 185 players took to the felt. Combined with yesterday's field of 125 players, that means that the first two days have produced 310 players and a prize pool of over $900,000. There is still one more flight of players to come tomorrow, and early indications are that it will be even bigger than the field today.
