Carnage!

Wong Gone
Wong Gone
It been total carnage on the table of Stewart Scott this morning as he commented to us, "We've had five all-ins within the first five minutes!"

One of those recent all-in situations saw the elimination of two players in a huge three-way clash that left Antonio Jr So with all the chips.

So held {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts} against two opponents with {8-Clubs}{8-Spades} and {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} as the board was spread {K-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades}{4-Hearts}. So moves up to 80,000.

A few minutes later Steve Wong was also spotted exiting from this table of doom. Wong had gone from 17k to 60k to zero within thirty minutes of play today, after he informed us he ran pocket jacks into pocket kings, followed by {A-?}{10-?} into {A-?}{Q-?}.

Deep-stacked poker at its finest!

The Steicke Machine Rolls On

David Steicke spent all of Dy 1Ain accumulation mode, doubling up on his first hand and never looking back. He's at it again. Steicke defended his big blind against a middle-position raise to 3,500. He check-called another 5,500 on an all-heart flop, {Q-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {5-Hearts}.

When the turn fell {6-Spades}, Steicke checked a second time. This time he was playing possum and coyly check-raised his opponent's 8,000-chip bet to 16,000. That player called, then folded the {6-Clubs} river when Steicke tanked for a minute before betting 18,000.

Tran Toasts Tan

Teac Mang Tan Eliminated
Teac Mang Tan Eliminated
Teac Mang Tan opened with a raise before J.C. Tran made it an additional 5,500 to play from the button. The blinds folded and Tan played with his chips for several moments of deliberation before committing to a call.

The flop came down an innocent looking {3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and Tan instantly moved all in for his last 20,000 chips. Tran quickly called and the cards were tabled.

Tan: {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts}
Tran: {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}

It was all over on the turn when the {K-Clubs} fell to give Tran an unbeatable set, as the meaningless {10-Clubs} landed on the river.

Tan is eliminated as Tran breaks to a new table with a commanding 70,000 chip stack.

Bell Hot and Bothered

Emanuel Bell plays with his heart on his sleeve. His fiery emotions were already on display here this afternoon. With action coming to Bell in the 9-seat preflop, the dealer thought Bell had surrendered his hand and pulled the cards into the muck. Bell was furious and tried to grab them back out. His actions brought an uproar from the rest of the table, with David Steicke immediately requesting a floor.

Floor supervisor Dave Lamb came and listened to what happened. He then told Bell that, although the dealer had mucked the cards in error, Bell had a responsibility to protect his own hand. That response fanned the flames of Bell's anger even higher.

"He's supposed to ask!" Bell protested. "He's not supposed to touch." Casey Kastle tried to intervene but Bell ignored Kastle and continued to rant.

"This is bullsh*t! How is this my fault? I'm just supposed to take it on the chin then? Fine." He heaved a deep breath and took a short walk away from the table to try to calm down.

Leewah Crashes Out

Dave Lee Eliminated
Dave Lee Eliminated
Australian fans will be disappointed to learn that Dave Lee has crashed out of the tournament on just the second hand of the day.

After raising preflop to 2,800, Lee and the player in the big blind saw a flop {J-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. The big blind checked and Lee followed up with a bet of 7,800. The big blind player then check-raised to 18,500 before Lee jammed it for his 40,000-chip stack. His opponent insta-called.

Lee: {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}
Opponent: {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}

A set wasn't enough for Lee as his opponent had flopped the broadway straight. Lee was hoping to see a repeat on board but the {3-Hearts} on the turn and {4-Diamonds} on the river failed to deliver and Lee was sent to the rail.

What a Start for Wong!

We're only ten minutes into the day and Steve Wong has already doubled up twice. First he opened all in from the button for 15,000 and was called by the big blind. It was an "oops!" moment for Wong, with his {10-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} an underdog to the big blind's {A-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}. Missing the first four board cards, {7-Clubs} {6-Spades} {9-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} was no problem for Wong, even despite the fact that his outs to a pair of tens were dead. Wong spiked the {3-Spades} on the river to double up to 31,000.

Just two hands later, Wong was all in again, this time was {A-Spades} {8-Spades} against a different big blind's {A-Diamonds} {Q-Spades}. That player paired queens on a flop of {10-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {5-Clubs} but Wong still wasn't sweating. He went {4-Spades} on the turn and {3-Spades} on the river (again!) to make the nut flush and double up to 64,000.

Some Interesting Tables

While we're yet to get hold of a table draw but our first walk of the tournament floor has unveiled some interesting tables.

Ian Frazer, Hien Tran and Maksim Shuts find themselves together, while Jay 'Seabeast' Kinkade and JC Tran are certain to provide some fireworks on their table.

However the table which is likely to provide the most color would have to be the one tucked in the corner of the room featuring the enthusiastic Emanuel Bell, the emotionless Steve Sung, the experienced Casey Kastle and the eccentric David Steicke.
