Chronis Crumbling

Christian Heich raised to 30,000 from under the gun and Chris Chronis called out of the small blind.

The flop was {8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{7-Clubs}, and Chronis fired out 50,000 with Heich making the call. The turn was the {J-Hearts} and Chronis checked to Heich, who slid 100,000 into the pot. Chronis made the call and the {10-Spades} fell on the river. Chronis checked again to Heich, who fired once more for 150,000. The heat was too much for Chronis and he laid down his cards.

Once again Heich gets the better of Chronis, who slips down to 600,000 chips.

Christian Heich - A Man To Watch

Christian Heich
Christian Heich
Many observers, both in the Crown Poker Room and in our live shout box, say that Christian Heich is the dark-horse of the final three tables. With an Aussie Millions Gold Ring already under his belt, the German continues to build a fierce reputation down under, most recently with a massive bluff against Chris Chronis.

Chronis raised to 30,000 from the cutoff and Heich popped it up to 106,000 from the small blind. The big blind folded and Chronis made the call.

They went heads-up to a flop of {Q-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, and Heich led out for 105,000. Chronis called. The {6-Hearts} fell on the turn and Heich checked to Chronis, who slid 200,000 into the middle. Heich then check-raised all in for an additional 478,000 chips!

Chronis went into the tank, as per most decision making at this stage of the tournament, before eventually deciding to give it up. Heich then flashed {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds} for just ace-high!

Chronis slips to 730,000 while Heich is now looking very dangerous with over 1.3 million chips.

Quite a Fellows!

There's a new chip leader in the Crown Poker Room and his name is Zach Fellows. Fellows went to war with Rajkumar Ramakrishnan, who raised to 45,000 from the button preflop. Fellows called that raise, then check-called another 120,000 on a flop of {8-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {K-Spades}. Both players checked the {J-Spades} turn. The river came down {10-Diamonds} and brought a bet of 200,000 chips from Fellows. Ramakrishnan liked his hand enough to call the bet, but mucked when Fellows showed him the nut flush, {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}.

It was a huge swing for both players, with Ramakrishnan plummeting to 1.29 million and Fellows taking over the chip lead at 1.74 million.

Pressure No More as Annica Doubles

Annica Ivert
Annica Ivert
Annica Ivert raised to 30,000 from under the gun and Zach Gruneberg made it 90,000 to go from the button. The blinds folded and Ivert moved all in for 475,000 in total with Gruneberg making the call.

Gruneberg: {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Ivert: {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}

The board fell {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{3-Spades}{9-Hearts}{A-Hearts} and Ivert collected a huge double up thanks to the lovely ladies. She's up to nearly 1 million once again, and Gruneberg fell to 400,000.

Ivert Starts to Feel the Pressure

Richard Ashby raised to 32,000 from the cutoff and Annica Ivert popped it up to 96,000 from the small blind. The action was then to Sam Capra in the big blind, who put in an additional raise to 200,000 total. Ashby stepped out of the way and Ivert deliberated before making the call.

The flop landed {K-Hearts}{8-Spades}{9-Spades} and Ivert bet out only 65,000 into the 450,000 pot. Capra instantly declared a raise to 200,000 and the action was back to Ivert. She went into the tank for a long time and was visibly distressed by the decision. With hands on her head, the normally statuesque figure of Ivert was put under immense pressure by the camera crews and media surrounding the table. She eventually gave it up and Capra captured a massive pot to move up to 1.1 millions. Ivert slipped to 500,000.

Sorel Mizzi Eliminated in 16th Place (AU$65,000)

Sorel Mizzi - 16th Place
Sorel Mizzi - 16th Place
Sorel Mizzi has had his chips in from behind several times this afternoon. It finally cost him a spot in the tournament. Mizzi raised to 120,000 from the big blind after Peter Rho opened for 35,000 and Zach Fellows called on the button. Rho did not want to play for 120,000; he folded. When the action came to Fellows, he shoved all in.

Mizzi sighed and shook his head. He seemed to know that he was behind, but felt committed to the hand and called.

Mizzi: {A-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}
Fellows: {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs}

"I'm not even sweating," joked Mizzi. And sure enough, the flop came {6-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {9-Hearts} to give him a flush draw to go along with his ace overcard. The turn was the {J-Clubs} (no help, this time); the river blanked {7-Spades} to finally put a stake in Mizzi's heart.

He earned AU$65,000 in prize money. Fellows is in the top half of the counts with 1.32 million.

Chronis Puts the Foot Down

Chris Chronis
Chris Chronis
Chris Chronis is starting to get active after taking down a couple of generous post-flop pots.

In the first hand, Chronis raised to 40,000 from the cutoff and Barny Boatman was the three-bettor, making it 115,000 to go from the button. Chronis called. The flop was {6-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and both checked. The turn was the {9-Spades} and Chronis moved all in at the pot in a massive overbet. Boatman sighed and folded {K-Clubs}{K-Spades} face up.

A few moments later, Chronis was raising again, this time to 35,000 from under the gun with Stewart Scott and Dixon Ruecker calling in the blinds. The flop was {J-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{5-Hearts} and Scott checked to Ruecker, who fired 120,000. Chronis called and Scott stepped aside. The turn was the {K-Hearts}, and both checked to see the {A-Diamonds} fall on the river. Ruecker checked to Chronis, who fired a healthy 300,000 into the middle. Ruecker gave it up and Chronis collected another uncontested pot. He's now back up to around 1.08 million chips.

Rho's Aces Get Chopped

We're not sure who should be more disappointed about a recent hand between Elliot Smith and Peter Rho. Smith opened for 32,000 from middle position and was called by Rho on the button, and Tino Lechich in the big blind. On a flop of {J-Hearts} {8-Spades} {9-Diamonds}, action checked to Rho. He opted to bet two-third of the pot, coming in for 65,000. Only Smith called.

The turn fell {Q-Hearts}, putting four to a straight on the board. Smith checked; Rho checked behind. The river {10-Spades} put the whole straight on the board. Again both players checked. Rho had been dealt {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} but was playing the board straight; Smith had been dealt {9-Clubs} {10-Hearts}, turned the straight, and then watched his straight be counterfeited by the board straight.

The two players chopped up Tino Lechich's 32,000 chips and went back to work.

Ashby Takes an Unusual Line

We watched Richard Ashby limp into a pot from under the gun. Nobody else was interested in playing except for the big blind, Zach Gruneberg, who got to see the flop without having to commit any more chips. It came down {2-Spades} {5-Spades} {3-Spades}. Gruneberg checked; Ashby checked behind.

The turn was the {3-Clubs}. Gruneberg tried a bet of 20,000, but he couldn't shake Ashby. Ashby called to the river {10-Hearts}. Gruneberg checked it to Ashby, who checked behind. Gruneberg, as last aggressor, opened first, showing {2-Diamonds} {4-Spades}. He flopped a straight flush draw that missed.

And what did Ashby have? {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds}! He collected the pot to the puzzlement of the players at the table and the spectators on the rail.
