The Professor Learns a Lesson

On a flop of {7-Spades}{8-Spades}{10-Spades}, it was checked to Howard Lederer in the cut off who made it 1,800. His opponent made it 4,000 and Lederer made the call.

The turn brought the {q-Diamonds} and the two checked.

His opponent made it 5,000 to go on the {j-Diamonds} river. Lederer moved all in and was called. He showed {A-Spades}{q-Spades} for the nut flush.

Lederer was later pulled aside by the dealer to inform him that the motion he made on his bet on the flop was a string bet in Australia. Howard's motion is common the States, where a player has the bet in hand but drops the chips in two flicks of the wrist. Dealers were told to be lenient on international players since the movement is so commonly used elsewhere.
