Meritan Hero-Calls Against Lew

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Luc Meritan
Luc Meritan

Every so often, a player makes it clear that they are very pleased with a hand that they have played. Luc Meritan approached the media tables with a story of a big hand involving him and Randy Lew.

A big stack opened to 2,500. Randy Lew called and Meritan called in the small blind. The flop came {j-}{7-}{4-}. Meritan checked and the big stack continued for 5,000. Lew and Meritan both called.

The turn was a {2-} and this time it checked to Lew who bet 20,000 and Meritan was the only caller.

The river was the {5-} and Meritan checked. Lew tanked for a little bit before betting 54,000.

"It looked like he was pretending that he was huge when he was not huge" Meritan told us. "I felt like I had the best hand."

Meritan had 70,000 left so he was calling for a large percentage of his remaining chips. In the end he did so with {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and Lew turned over {6-Spades}{7-Spades}.

"It's a very gutsy play," said Meritan. "I knew he was good enough to do it. If it was an amateur I don't call. It was definitely 'nanonoko fame'-dependent."
