It’s been on the EPT schedule since Season 1, and in fact was the first ever event.
No Spaniard has ever won the title. The closest to do so was Dragan Kostic and Jesus Cortes Lizano, who both finished as runner-up in Season 8 and Season 7 respectively.
No player has ever made the final table twice.
Many Americans have made the final table over the years including Phil Ivey (2nd in Season 3), Jason Mercier (6th in Season 5) and Adam Junglen (6th in Season 4), but Carter Phillips was the only American to win the event, doing so in Season 6 after conquering a field of 479 players for €850,000.
There have been two winners from Sweden (Season 1 & 7) and two from Germany (Seasons 5 & 8); while the other winners have hailed from France (Season 2), Norway (Season 3), Denmark (Season 4) and United States (Season 6).
Thanks to our colleague, Chad Hollaway, for these facts.
Team PokerStars Pro Liv Beoree was one of the three remaining players going into the flop. All three checked and the dealer burned and turned on the turn.
Boeree fired 1,000 and Uladzimir Zakharau from Belarus made the call while Ugnius Simelionis from Lithuania on his immediate left mucked.
Liv led for 5,350 on the river and Zakharau folded.
In a three-way pot, it was checked to Risto Antero Ailamo who bet 3,600 on the river of a board, the big blind folded but Martin Jacobson check-raised to 12,300.
Ailamo didn't take too long to make the call but Jacobson showed for a rivered full house to beat Ailamo's smaller flopped full house holding of .
Jessica Ngu from Australia went all-in for around 6,700 from under the gun and found a customer in 2010 EPT Tallinn €10,000 High Roller champion Kristijonas Andrulis from Lithuania.
Ngu opened and Andrulis showed .
The flop went giving Ngu a set along with a huge relief. The on the turn and on the river made no changes and Ngu doubled up.
With Ernst Christian Stratmeyer already all in on the flop, Artem Litvinov checked the turn and Alexander Roumeliotis bet 8,500. The Russian looked pained for several minutes before moving all in and his Swedish opponent instantly called.
Stratmeyer:
Roumeliotis:
Litvinov:
Litvinov's theatrics paid off and the river sent the other two players to the rail. Litvinov declared, "I bubbled the €50k yesterday, I'm going home tomorrow, I'm going to play every hand..."
The two Juhas, Helppi and Lauttamus, both have less than their starting stacks but are both going about getting back into it the right way.
Helppi barrelled from the small blind, getting his under the gun opponent off his hand on the turn on a board.
Moments later we witnessed Lauttamus check-raise to 1,600 from the big blind after an opponent c-bet on a flop. It did the tick as a fold was quick in coming.
