Slight Stumble For Selbst

Vanessa Selbst (button) called a raise of 525 from the player in the cutoff. The small blind called as well, but the big blind three-bet to 2,025. Only Selbst came along to see the {9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop.

The player in the big blind bet 2,400, Selbst called, and the {4-Spades} hit the turn. Both checked, doing the same when the {7-Diamonds} river fell.

Selbst's opponent showed {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}, besting Selbst's hand.

Black Jacks

American Shannon Shorr continues to ascend the leaderboard here in Deauville.

After Roberto Romanello limped in under the gun and a player two to his right made it 1,700, a third player called and Shannon Shorr defended his big blind.

Romanello also called and all four players checked down the {k-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop, {6-Diamonds} turn and {3-Diamonds} river.

Two players showed {a-}{q-}, but Shorr's two black jacks took it down.

Boeree Beaten

Liv and Let Die.
Liv and Let Die.

Liv Boeree made it 600 to see the river on a {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} board, only to see her opponent raise it up to 1,500.

The Team PokerStars Pro made the call and the dealer peeled off a {5-Clubs} river. This time, Liv's heads-up opponent led right out for 4k, sending her into the tank.

She emerged calling, but mucked when he flipped over {9-}{2-}.

McClung Six-Bets For The Win

Chris "d0r1t0s" McClung is among the biggest stacks in the room and one would expect him to play this way with that kind of a stack.

We arrived at the table in the midst of the preflop raising war. Facing a three-bet to 1,850, McClung gave his opponent something to think about after four-betting to 4,050. However, the pressure was back on McClung afer his opponent five-bet to 9,850.

McClung didn't appear to mind, promptly moving all in with the bigger stack. His opponent, with roughly 18,000 behind, sat back in his chair and folded after about 30 seconds in the tank.

Not Exactly Nguyen-ing

Scotty Nguyen, baby.
Scotty Nguyen, baby.

Scotty Nguyen has been awfully quiet over the last level, having seen his stack fall to a little more than a third of its original size.

He chirped up recently, however, calling a 450-chip bet from a player in middle position.

Both players checked down the {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} flop, {a-Diamonds} turn and the {8-Clubs} river before Scotty's opponent showed {k-Spades}{j-Clubs}.

"I can beat that, baby," said Nguyen, turning over {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts} to rake in the chips and begin the slow climb back to health.

Don't Count Her Out

Vanessa Selbst has turned things around here in Deauville. While she spent the first two levels dumping chips, the Team PokerStars Pro is now building quite a healthy stack.

Facing a 525-chip open from one opponent that was called by another, Selbst bumped it up to 1,500. Only one player called, but he quickly folded when she bet 2,100 into the {7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop.

Selbst is now up and over the 40k mark and firmly entrenched as her table's captain.
