Caza Gets Gunter

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Marco Caza
Marco Caza

Marco Caza is back up over a million chips here in Barcelona as he continues to hover around the upper chip-counts here in the EPT Main Event.

Simion Gunter was down to just over ten big blinds for 75,000 and he got that into the middle with {A-Spades}{7-Diamonds} . Caza alone made the call with {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} and although Gunter looked likely to double, he was rivered on the board of {7-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} .

As Marco Caza was stacking his chips up and preparing to enjoy a 20-minute break, fellow player at the table Filipe Oliveira advised Caza on his strategy when he returns.

"All you have to do is take 129 players out really quickly and we're heads up!"

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Three levels of 90 minutes have been played and another two remain, as the next 20-minute break just started. The field of Day 3 has already been cut into more than half, as just 131 out of 294 hopefuls remain that returned to the tables of the Casino Barcelona at noon.

Chance Kornuth Eliminated In Gigantic Clash

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Chance Kornuth
Chance Kornuth

From middle position, Anthony Chimkovitch raised to 16,000. Florian Bordet called, leaving himself with just 50,000 behind. Danny Tang called on the button, and Chance Kornuth defended his big blind.

The flop was {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}{6-Hearts} and Kornuth checked. Chimkovitch bet 27,000, Bordet folded, and Tang called. Kornuth took some time, then check-raised to 115,000, which got called by Chimkovitch. Now it was Tang's turn to take some time, and he took nearly three minutes before slowly releasing his hand.

The turn was the {4-Diamonds} and after thirty seconds, Kornuth shoved all in for 371,000. Chimkovitch didn't seem too pleased with the situation at hand, but flicked in a quick call regardless.

In the biggest pot of the tournament so far, the following hands were shown down:

Chance Kornuth: {Q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Anthony Chimkovitch: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

Upon seeing Kornuth's hand, the table let out a collective gasp. With just second pair, the American found himself suddenly at risk for his tournament life. Kornuth was looking for a queen or eight to pull the upset, but the river {5-Hearts} wasn't one of his outs. Chimkovitch raked in the monstrous pot and is the new chipleader.

Norbert Berent's Eights Hold

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Sam Chartier raised to 14,000 from late position and Norbert Berent three-bet to 35,000 from two seats over in the hijack. Chartier looked over at the stack of his opponent, then moved all in. Berent called and found himself in great shape to double.

Berent: {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}
Chartier: {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}

The board came {Q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{6-Spades}{7-Spades} and Berent doubled for 198,000, putting a dent into Chartier's big stack.

Battle of the Blinds Goes to Marc Trijaud

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

The action folded all the way around to Benjamin Saada in the small blind and he open-shoved into the big blind of Marc Trijaud. The latter called for his last 82,000 and the cards were tabled.

Trijaud: {A-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}
Saada: {7-Spades}{6-Hearts}

The board ran out {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{A-Clubs}{J-Clubs} and Trijaud doubled, essentially swapping stack sizes with his table neighbor.

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Andrey Sharonov

Andrey Sharonov raised to 14,000 from early position and Diego Zeiter defended in the big blind.

The flop came {j-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{2-Clubs} and Zeiter checked to Sharonov who bet 16,000. Zeiter called.

The turn was the {10-Diamonds} and Zeiter lead for 30,000. Sharonov moved all in for just over 100,000, and Zeiter called.

Sharonov turned over {k-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for top pair, but Zeiter had him drawing dead after having turned the nut-straight with {a-Spades}{q-Spades}. The river was the meaningless {q-Clubs} and the overall day 1 chip-leader Sharonov headed to the payout cage.

Gilles Huet Spikes River to Double

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Joining the action on the {Q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{5-Spades}{7-Spades} turn, Gilles Huet in the small blind and Ping Liu in the cutoff went at it with the former ending up all in and at risk holding {K-Spades}{Q-Spades} for top pair and the flush draw. Liu had improved to two pair with the {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}, but the {9-Spades} river gave Huet the winning flush and he doubled for 105,000.

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Igor Yaroshevskyy raised to 14,000 and Peyman Luth moved all in for 119,000 from the cutoff. Yaroshevskyy asked for a count, then called after brief consideration.

Luth: {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}
Yaroshevskyy: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}

The pair of fours held up and made a straight thanks to the board of {5-Hearts}{3-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{7-Clubs} in order to Luth double up.
