Cesar Garcia and David Docherty went to the river on a board of A♦Q♦A♣5♠8♣ when Garcia bet 55,000 from the hijack. Docherty spent a few minutes in the tank, but he eventually emerged with a raise to 155,000.
Garcia snap-called and turned over A♥8♥ for a full house. "I almost made a really nitty call," Docherty said as he flashed a pair of eights and mucked.
"Wow, what a river," Garcia said, raking in the massive pot that brought his stack up past 500,000.
Rokas Asipauskas raised to 6,000 on the button before Kayhan Mokri three-bet to 27,000 in the big blind. Asipauskas then moved all in, and Mokri instantly splashed in his last 129,000.
Kayhan Mokri: J♥J♣
Rokas Asipauskas: 7♦7♥
"Ai ai ai," Asipauskas said upon finding out he was dominated.
"Why are you saying ai, ai ai, before the flop?" Mokri countered, trying not to tempt fate, but the 4♣10♣8♦A♦K♠ board left little for him to worry about as he doubled up.
Tablemate Sami Bechahed shared that Mokri was down to one 500 chip earlier today. "We're back. Who wants to get some?" Mokri said.
Danut Chisu bet 9,000 from early position on a flop of 8♣4♣3♥ before Robin Gerard raised to 22,000 in the big blind. Hannes Jeschka then reraised to 50,000 under the gun and Chisu folded, but Gerard moved all in. Jeschka snap-called.
Robin Gerard: 4♠4♥
Hannes Jeschka: A♣3♣
Gerard was ahead with his set of fours, but the 7♣ turn improved Jeschka to a flush. "F**k," Gerard said, putting his hands over his head in disbelief and walking away from the table. He needed the board to pair on the river, but he missed the 5♠ and Jeschka secured the massive pot.
The stacks were counted down and Jeschka had Gerard's remaining 130,000 covered.
"What am I supposed to do? It's a cooler," Jeschka explained.
Diogo Coelho raised to 5,000 under the gun and was called by Angelina Rich in middle position and Erik Seidel in the big blind.
All three players checked the Q♣6♣A♥ flop. Coelho then bet 5,500 on the Q♥ turn and Rich called, but Seidel then raised to 13,500.
Coelho called, while Rich got out of the way. The river was the 5♠ and Seidel checked to Coelho, who moved all in. Seidel called for his last 22,000 with A♦7♠, but Coelho had Q♠J♥ for trips to win the pot and bust the Poker Hall of Famer.
Elias Suhonen raised to 5,000 in early position and Alessio Bisci, who owns a pizza restaurant back home and whom tablemate Mitch Garshofsky has nicknamed "Pizza Man," called in middle position. Julien Mariani in the hijack and Garshofsky in the small blind also called, but Dimitar Danchev then moved all in for 55,000 in the big blind. Suhohen reshoved to chase out the rest of the table.
Dimitar Danchev: K♠10♠
Elias Suhonen: A♣Q♦
Danchev took the lead on the J♠10♣4♦ flop with a pair, while the 6♠ turn also gave him a flush draw. The river, though, brought the Q♣ to give Suhohen a pair of queens and send the EPT champion to the rail.
Carlos Ribeiro raised to 5,000 under the gun before Renato Minicuci three-bet to 13,000 in the cutoff. Raffaele Bellapianta called in the small blind, while Ribeiro also stuck around and called.
The flop came J♥2♠7♠ and Minicuci bet 12,000. Bellapianta called, but Ribeiro then raised to 32,000. Minicuci got out of the way, and Bellapianta took a few minutes before announcing all-in. Ribeiro quickly called for 66,500.
Carlos Ribeiro: A♠5♠
Raffaele Bellapianta: Q♥Q♣
Bellapianta was ahead with his queens, but the K♠ turn gave Ribeiro the nut flush. The river was the 3♠ and he doubled up.
"Why didn't you four-bet?" Minicuci asked Bellapianta, who was in no mood to discuss the hand and remained silent.
At another table, Mario Colavita had opened to 6,000 on the button, Juan Baraza shoved for 23,000 in the small blind, and Colavita called.
Juan Baraza: K♥10♥
Mario Colavita: A♣4♦
Colavita hit two pair on the A♥4♥J♣ flop, while Baraza picked up straight and flush draws. The 7♠ turn was no help, while the river was the 5♣ and Colavita held on to send Baraza to the rail.
Lucas Scafini raised to 5,000 in early position and Mahersh Selvakumaran called on the button. Joe Mouawad then three-bet to 22,500 in the big blind, and both opponents called.
The flop came 8♥5♠6♦ and Mouawad checked to Scafini, who bet 21,000. Selvakumaran called, while Mouawad got out of the way.
The Q♥ fell on the turn and Scafini bet another 44,000. Selvakumaran again called, and the 10♦ came on the river. Both players then quickly checked, and Scafini showed A♥K♠. Selvakumaran, though, turned over 7♥7♣ to win the pot.
"I decided to change my strategy," Selvakumaran said as he raked in the pot.
Victoria Coren Mitchell moved all in for 16,000 from early position and Jessica Teusl called in middle position. Cedric Boyer then reshoved for 41,000 in the cutoff, and Teusl again called.
Victoria Coren Mitchell: J♠J♥
Cedric Boyer: A♠A♥
Jessica Teusl: 9♥9♣
Boyer slammed down his aces as he was a big favorite to scoop the pot, but the flop brought 10♦9♠7♥ to give Teusl a set. Boyer turned away from the table in disgust while the 10♣ turn improved Teusl to a full house and left Boyer a card from elimination, but he spiked the A♦ on the river. He doubled up off Teusl, while Coren Mitchell's hopes for a third EPT title came to an end.
Gustavo Silva and Eduard Barsegian had built a pot of around 70,000 as they went to the turn on a board of 6♣Q♣4♦2♦. Barsegian then moved all in from the button.
Silva had around 50,000 remaining in the big blind and tanked for several minutes until another player at the table called the clock. His 30-second timer was about to hit zero when he called off his last chips, turning over A♣6♦ for a pair of sixes. Barsegian, though, had A♠Q♦ for top pair.
The A♦ fell on the river to improve both players to two pair, but Barsegian remained in the lead to send Silva to the rail.
Maria Konnikova moved all in from the button and Gergo Szabo called for his last 15,000 in the small blind. Conor Bergin in the big blind took a peek at his cards, then snap-called for 35,000.
Gergo Szabo: 10♥10♠
Conor Bergin: A♣A♥
Maria Konnikova: A♠8♦
Bergin had woken up with two aces, and the 9♠8♣5♦5♣6♣ board kept him in the lead as he scooped the pot to earn a double up off Konnikova and send Szabo to the rail.
"Half an hour ago he had 1K," a dealer watching the table said.
At another table, Nichan Khorchidian had shoved for 30,000 from the button and David Docherty put him at risk in the big blind.
Nichan Khorchidian: K♦Q♠
David Docherty: 5♣5♥
Khorchidian needed to win the flip to stay alive, but he couldn't connect with the 3♣8♣8♦J♣8♥ board as Docherty secured the knockout.
