Jorge Abreu Rides Quads to the Chip Lead on Day 3 of the EPT Paris Main Event

Level 21 : Blinds 10,000/15,000, 15,000 ante
Jorge Abreu
Jorge Abreu

Jorge Abreu seized the chip lead on Day 3 of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Paris Main Event in grand style.

Abreu was faced with a bet of 400,000 on the river in a pot against fellow big stack Cesar Garcia. Abreu, though, was lying in wait with flopped quads and shoved on Garcia, who eventually called off his last 700,000 with a flush as Abreu scooped the massive pot. He ended the day with 2,250,000 and atop the leaderboard over the remaining 49 players.

Pawel Wojciechowski is in second place with 2,180,000, while Hugo De La Fouchardiere rounds out the podium with 2,040,000. De La Fouchardiere was fortunate not to be one of the first casualties of the day. He was down to just 66,000 and all in with ace-seven against Georgios Vrakas’ ace-king, but he found a seven on the flop to double up. He then outflopped Viet Vo’s ace-king with ace-five in a four-bet pot to score the knockout and continue his ascent up the leaderboard.

Jessica Teusl is the lone woman remaining in the field. She snapped off Hanan Tabrichi with two jacks earlier in the day, then spiked an ace on the flop to crack the two kings of Day 1a chip leader Thomas Cazayous for another knockout. She ended up in fourth place with 1,875,000 as she tries to become only the fourth woman to win an EPT title, and first in 12 years.

Followed along by his GRND on Tour crew throughout the day, Felix Schneiders built up a big chip stack when he bet 350,000 on the turn in a pot against Enrico Coppola, then shoved the river for 696,000 as Coppola finally surrendered. Schneiders ended up with 1,725,000 and in fifth place to end Day 3.

Other top stacks include Czech backgammon prodigy and blossoming poker star Zdenek Zizka (1,445,000), Mitch Garshofsky (1,275,000), Casimir Seire (1,225,000), Tsugunari Toma (1,115,000), 2023 NAPT champion Sami Bechahed (1,045,000), and Alex Keating (1,025,000). Further down the leaderboard are Joris Ruijs (945,000), EPT Monte Carlo finalist Coppola (880,000), Endrit Geci (770,000), Adrian State (665,000), 2024 EPT Prague runner-up Paul Runcan (610,000), Yuliyan Kolev (425,000), and Boris Kolev (300,000).

Day 3 began with 179 players out of a starting field of 1,474. Antoine Saout (176th), EPT Barcelona runner-up Sebastian Ionita (172nd), and Dietrich Fast (150th) were among the first to be sent off to the payout desk. Neil Channing, a popular figure during the height of the poker boom but who last cashed in an EPT event 16 years ago, lost a classic race with queens to Thierry Gogniat’s ace-king to bust in 86th place. Mathew Frankland (83rd), Vo (75th), Day 1b chip leader Mahersh Selvakumaran (67th), Kayhan Mokri (65th), Michael Perrone (62nd), Angelina Rich (60th), and Leo Worthington-Leese (59th) also fell throughout the day.

The remaining 49 players will return tomorrow to Le Palais des Congres at noon local time. The action picks up with 45 minutes remaining in Level 21 with blinds of 10,000/15,000 and a 15,000 big blind ante. Everyone left has locked up €19,800, but they are all chasing a guaranteed €106,150 payday for making it to the final table and €1,148,600 top prize for the eventual champion.

PokerNews will be back tomorrow to provide live updates throughout the day as the field continues to march down towards the final table.

Salman Ramzi
Salman Ramzi

Gael Djenkal opened to 30,000 in middle position. Salman Ramzi flat-called in the hijack, after which Mihai Tabac squeezed in a three-bet to 180,000 from the big blind.

Djenkal let his hand go after some thought, but Ramzi counted his chips and called to commit over half his stack.

Tabac quickly moved all in on the 5107 flop. Ramzi did one more count before he slammed his remaining 150,000 in the middle for a call.

Mihai Tabac: 99

The J turn gave Ramzi's overcards extra outs, but the 4 river was of no use to him. He clapped his hands and thanked his former opponents for the game before leaving to pick up his payout.

Mihai Tabac
Mihai Tabac

In a three-bet pot worth about 220,000, Mihai Tabac checked the 47Q flop from under the gun to Jose Ortiz in the hijack, who bet 65,000. Tabac called to the 7 turn, which both players checked.

Tabac also checked the 2 river, prompting Ortiz to announce an all-in bet worth 295,000. Tabac spent one of his time banks before he called with the covering stack.

Ortiz stood up as he flung his AK open, and he took his leave once Tabac tabled 99 for the winning pocket pair.

Felix Schneiders
Felix Schneiders

Big blind Chady Ojeil, Enrico Coppola in the hijack, and Felix Schneiders in the cutoff were on a flop of 74J. Ojeil checked to Coppola, who bet 45,000.

Schneiders raised to 150,000, forcing Ojeil out but getting Coppola along to the 3 turn. Coppola checked it over to Schneiders, who continued firing with a sizable bet of 350,000. Coppola made another quick call.

The 10 river prompted Coppola to check again. Schneiders then moved all in for his remaining 696,000, forcing Coppola into a long tank.

After spending all his time banks, Coppola eventually let his hand go with less than ten seconds left to act. The enormous pot was shipped to Schneiders, placing him among the top stacks in the room.

Garcia Crashes Out in Massive Encounter With Abreu

Cesar Garcia
Cesar Garcia

Cesar Garcia and Jorge Abreu went to the turn on a board of 33102 when Garcia bet 105,000 from early position. Abreu called on the button.

The river was the 6 and Garcia bet 400,000. Abreu quickly announced all in.

"Do you have tens again?" Garcia said as he let out an exasperated sigh. He spent a minute in the tank before calling for around 700,000, and Abreu turned over 33 for quads.

"Nice hand," Garcia said, tossing AK into the muck and shooting up from his seat to leave the table. He returned a few minutes later to give Abreu a fist bump, and Abreu was still busy stacking up his chips from the massive pot that put him above 2,000,000.

Briffard Earns a Miracle Double

Level 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Victor Briffard
Victor Briffard

Yuliyan Kolev raised to 24,000 in early position as action folded around to Victor Briffard in the small blind. He used a few time banks and looked up at the tournament clock before reraising to 191,000, leaving only a few chips behind. Kolev then moved all in, and Briffard again took his time before calling for 207,000.

Kolev showed Briffard the bad news when he turned over his aces, but the K44 flop gave Briffard trips and the lead. The board ran out 92 and he doubled up.

"Sorry," Briffard said after the hand.

"Don't say sorry if you win," tablemate Joachim Meisolle told him.

Abreu Ascends the Rankings

Level 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Jorge Abreu
Jorge Abreu

Big blind Cesar Garcia and Jorge Abreu in the hijack had built a sizable pot of 425,000 when they saw the 102A5 turn. Garcia checked to Abreu, who fired a bet of 155,000.

Garcia wanted to call, but accidentally put in too many chips. He claimed he had audibly announced his call, which was corroborated by one other player at the table. After some debate, his action was ruled a call.

The 2 then hit the river. Garcia led out for 250,000, causing Abreu to go deep into the tank. After a few time banks, Abreu raised all in for 505,000.

Garcia gave it some thought, but quickly shook his head and let his hand go in defeat.
